I had both German and Spanish in school for two years each but I'm nowhere near a functional, fluent speaker in either of them. Also flirted with French and Thai but my knowledge of them is pretty pitiful.
I don't believe I'll ever reach any kind of fluency in any of them; it's sort of a Sisyphean hobby and most people outside of the US are hostile to Americans anyway(especially Germans) so I don't really see a point.

English is a mix because it made huge amounts of contact with Nords/Celts and the Romans.
