He means we as in everyone alive right now

WE, as in ME and YOU will never run out of oil, why should we even care about the 10th generation from now in 1000 years running out of oil when statistically we as a species won't even live that long, or at least not at this level of stability.
>>
>>69025052
>>69024855
It's not that we're going to run out of oil, it's just that it's going to get more and more expensive to drill for more. As a matter of economics we've drilled all the easy to get to oil first, so we have to keep going deeper and deeper and going to more offshore areas. It then costs more to extract the oil, driving the price up. The price of oil is just going to keep rising. That's the main problem.
>>
>>69025357

We can, it's just too expensive.
>>
>>69025285
That addresses nothing I said you clueless moron.

If it were the case, there have been plenty of alternatives that have been bought out by big oil companies.

Nice propaganda. Industrials and big corporations spread that kind of lie so that they can make maximum profit in a minimum time, instead of saving oil.
>>
>>69024855
ethanol
>>
>>69025462
Now that's a much more correct way to look at it. But it's a bit like hedging in that oil drives economic development sufficient to the state, and the state derives its power through the backing of sufficient oil supply. It works when it works, but then you have LTCM style blowouts when they got out of hand with their towers of babel and had to be taken down for the good of greater projects.

It really doesn't do anything to settle how much oil we really have at hand.

You can convert coal to oil. That process will keep the USA oil independent for a couple of centuries.
>>
>>69025357
we can, sort of, but doing that takes energy

It ends up being a net loss
>>
>>69024855
When we run out of CHEAP oil, we force the heating sector to switch to electricity, and let the transportation sector get by on biofuels and hydrogen based synthetic fuels until we have found a scalable energy alternative.

>>
>>69024855
Oil would have become so prohibitively expensive that we wouldn't be able to use it in a mass way for energy. We will be forced to find alternative energy sources before we come anywhere near the depletion of the oil supply. It'll probably be nuclear power or something. In other words, we will never run out of oil.

Do you honestly believe hat the elites would want society to completely collapse, billions of people to starve, and their money and investments to become worthless? What would be the point? This is what I don't understand when it comes to all of these illuminati-esque theories, they never give us the motivation of the people involved.

But we CAN do coal liquefaction and it's been a viable solution since before World War II.
>>
>>69025778
There is a plant in Arkansas that turns turkey guts into API #1 Fuel Oil, which can then be refined into products like gasoline. The process is neither cost or energy effective, much like turning coal into oil.

Everything will be fine. The big oil companies will already be transitioning to whatever the fuck the next consumable power source is.

You think it will happen over night, it won't. It will take decades.
>>
>>69026484
Yes, because oil is literally worthless right now. Not to mention that the profitable wells are all in the Middle East, Russia, and Venezuela, not exactly places open to American oil interests. It's only reasonsble that America would progress to other everyday sources, if only in the name of energy independence or corporate profits.

We've been saving for this eventuality.

Eventually, the middle east will run out. This is when we sell of our strategic oil reserves, and then we transfer over to fusion/nuclear.

By that point, the United States will simply leave, and make the solar system great again.

The world currently subsists on deployable sources of energy.

we either find a deployable replacement for oil (not likely), or start preparing our energy infrastructure to use energy from fluctuating sources instead.

Batteries are shit, so electricity only works for urban light transport.

Hydrogen based energy storage is doable but terribly inefficient atm. Biofuels compete directly with food production so is not scalable.

Step 1) energy saving R&D can slow demand in the short term
step 2) Intermittency infrastructure can increase electricity share of fluctuating renewables to about half without too much fuss. Base load should be nuclear, coal, waste incineration and biomass.
3) electricity based district heating can cut oil demand AND provide storage options for fluctuating renewables.
4) light transport switches to battery electric, while heavy transport will have to make do with synthetic and biofuels until hydrogen electric matures.
>>
We'll just switch to solar and wind power for everything, it's easy as fuck. The only reason we still use oil is because a market exists around it. Once we run out of oil, we will find a way to construe some kind of value from wind/solar power and it will take off easily.

The market will literally fix it. Oil is so far away from being anything to worry about whatsoever.

we use thorium, or natural gas, deep ocean drilling

you do know that there is still oil in a lot of wells don't you? it's just not economic to pump it out past a certain presure, and new fracking isn't being carried out due to the cost per barrel

if oil becomes scarce the price rises and suddenly a load more oil gets economic to recover

>>69025020
did the IPCC scientists make 73 prediction models?
did the observations agree with their predictions?
even once?

can you trust them if their models do not predict as claimed?
>>
>>69024855
We start global adoption of nuclear power, like we should have 50 years ago.
>>
The story behind this idea that oil forms from 'dead dinosaur bodies' is certainly born of dubious background. I suggest people skeptically look into it on their own time.
>>
It's not going to "run out" so much as it will "slowly get more expensive over time, coloring the cost of everything until eventually our infrastructure degrades to the point that world governments collapse"

fossil fuels are cheap energy, that's it. Cheap energy that's allowed us to build a massive society. Unless we get fusion up and running, it'll be all downhill from here.
>>
>>69025778
and gas bro

>>69025843
not realising that oil, coal and gas are just hydrocarbons and you can fractional distill them to lengthen or reduce the chain length

it's basic organic science
>>
>>69035921
A) the theory that it comes from the mantle has been mostly discredited, primarily because the predictions it makes on where oil should be located are all dead wrong.
B) it doesn't matter anyway, because we know for a fact that we can deplete wells, meaning we consume it far faster than it could possibly be produced by the earth, were that the case. Shout "HYDROCARBONS AREN'T FOSSIL FUELS" all you want, it won't change the fact that wells don't perceptibly fill up.

oil isn't just going to abruptly run out without warning

as supply decreases price will increase which means alternatives become more economical

over the next 50 or so years we will transition to natural gas and eventually to renewables

major energy companies produce projections of how they think energy market will evolve over time with projections going out 30-50 years, like Shell energy scenarios or BP global energy outlook

>implying we don't already have the technology to completely replace fossil fuels.

Oil is the only thing keeping the middle east from chimping out. Archer put it pretty well.

"You think the middle east is a mess now? Imagine how it would be if nobody needed their oil".
>>
a lot of oil wells that where dried out are already filling up again, look it up.
wells that where pumped out decades ago are filling up again because of oil from further down the well.
>>
>>69040584
this, muslims in the middle east can do all this shit right now because we need the oil too much.
The moment they cant give us any oil and they do something retarded like ISIS then the midle east while get everything those sandniggers deserve.
