That's obviously tough because it matters a lot what his current believes are, his upbringing, his knowledge of history etc. But it's one half of the original undivided Church that continues and develops the ancient traditions set by the first Ecumenical councils, which should already be enough to give it legitimacy. And then it's also all the hardships we've endured and survived, like the Muslim invasion and Communist uprisings.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's 3 and that 3rd one one is typically only in extenuating circumstances. There is actually debate on whether you should even re-marry at all if your spouse dies. See 1Co 7:5-9
