Couldn't this just be a result of the general trend in the last few decades of companies consolidating into large conglomerates? i.e. there are simply fewer CEO positions in the world compared to thirty years ago, but the risk management work they do, which gives them their value, has stayed the same or increased because it's tied to the size of the market.
I mean, let's be honest, a worker's buying power has decreased/stagnated, but it's not a tenth of what is was before. Not to say that conglomeration isn't a problem itself, or that there isn't a lot of back scratching in the corporate world, but higher payment for management isn't just a 'social construction', or whatever feminists say. There is a reason why the economy works the way it does. You should try to work with market forces, not against them.
