Don't spend too much time in NYC, the city is shit and unless you live there, you won't experience anything amazing.
The real gem that I found was Salt Lake City in Utah. The hotel was cheap as chips and really nice as well, the city is small, extremely clean, the local beers are amazing, the population is very friendly and the park in the city center maintained by the Mormons is stunning. I wouldn't spend more than a weekend there, though.

...yawn...
But no seriously OP, visit Memphis. At least a dozen live blues shows every night within walking distance of your hotel, plus famous BBQ.
New Orleans is good too for food, the best you'll find in the States.
The Appalachians are some of the most delicious nature porn you'll ever see. Make a point to drive across the Shenandoah River valley; it puts Cambodia to shame.
Disney World is worth a visit if you like family-friendly stuff.
Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky and Hawaii Volcano National Park are good visits

OYYY MATE
I've been to North Africa, Asia Minor, and all around Europe and Australia for at least a fortnight each and would say you learn more about a place from shitposting on /pol/ and /int/ than from conversations with the locals in central bars, and seeing landmarks or swimming/walking in their countryside. Seeing the world is overrated, you'd probably need to work with a bunch of locals in a place for a few months to properly experience another county.
