I lived in Alaska for 10 years and I highly recommend visiting in the late spring early summer. I lived in Texas too but only as a kid so I don't remember a lot but there are some nice places to go in Texas too. Mount Rushmore is in South Dakota and thats pretty much the only thing to really see in that state.
The good news is that each of those states are really pro gun so odds are that you could rent an AR at a range.
