Sure, but then you have to be forgiving about all our roads to be made of asphalt and or concrete.
But yeah, I've seen pretty towns, but most of them is like the generic north american town.

toronto is garbage. The nicest city in Canada is probably vancouver or victoria....and to be honest that's not saying much, since our politicians are so incredibly corrupt and don't really give to fucks about the country, we don't really beautify cities.

And the other leaf was right. It's the prairies that are isolated. The maritimes are far more densely populated in the countrside, whereas out west you have to drive for hours to get to the next town sometimes.

Nova Scotia has Halifax and a ton of other towns. Always been easily accessible from Montreal, Boston, etc. The prairies are a massive frozen wasteland and were far away from the economic hubs for a long time.

Nova Scotia today has roughly the same population as Saskatchewan despite being a million times smaller.

I might have been there when I was really young. Can't remember. I remember a few coastal towns on the st lawrence had a nice atmosphere, but it's so vague. Long time ago.

The problem is modern constructions. Every time there's one its ugly and cheap, even by modern standards. It's like you forgot how to do nice things.
Also job market in Can is very centralized. Here you can live in a small village and go to high powered banking job every morning.
In canada you have to be around Montreal, Toronto, BC or Cal. Or you're dead.
Distance doesn't help.
>>
>>68854847
That is a fairly representative of a small urban town, and I believe this to be pleasing to the eye and generally nice looking consider the esthetics of western architecture.
Wouldn't you agree that it is '' nice '' ?
Sure its not the top, but thats far above the world average, with functionning and maintained buildings and infrastructure.

Looks like most American small towns tbqh family
>>
>>68857877
>those Swiss towns you've posted so far don't look like they're economic hotspots to me.
They are actually. We really have industry all over the place. Only maybe Graubunden is isolated. And Trentino is kinda shit.
Also it helps that we're a small country and dense. Which means a village is always near a town, and our towns are bustling with international business.

I don't expect everyone to be like that. But still. America has a more decentralized job industry.

Jobs are important. A town is ugly if it doesn't have good jobs nearby. Because there's no reason to live there.

You're telling me, I was born in NB and had to come to BC to find work. Although I do build ships for a living so it was one coast or the other.

And yeah so much of what gets built these days is cheap ugly corporate big box awfulness. The people with a "progressive" approach just say "hurr durr put some bike lanes on it and we're basically Europe".

Most buildings I see don't really have any style. They're like blocks.

Here's an example of what you can do with the Canadian style. But that's not a town, it's westmount. I don't get why you didn't build more in that style and with that greenery.

Even if you argue about money, most of your big houses are ugly mcmansions. I don't get this absence of tastes.

OP's Yarrow photo is just outside of Vancouver.

On the right spring day in Vancouver, you could be skiing or snowboarding down great mountains, then 20 minutes later mountain biking through awesome rainforest trails, then 20 minutes later be playing volleyball on the beach, then 20 minutes later enjoying world-class fine dining amid downtown skyscrapers. So it's anything but 'featureless'.

Those aren't plastic. Those are composite roof tiles on that roof. That became the standard after people stopped making wooden shingle roofs on account of your house becoming a giant torch.

That way if there is a forest fire or the neighborhood kid sets off a bottle rocket you don't have to find a new place to live.

yes, and they'll be gone in 60 years, every one of them. I owned a house in saskatoon that was a square of brick with a simple wood addition, it was absolutely ancient at 100 years old when I sold it and the house was practically worthless as the continual groundswell had cracked the foundation and run a fissure up the side of the house almost to the roof through the brickwork. it finally succumbed and burnt down a few months after I sold it, as the oldest building in the neighborhood.

it's simply not affordable to build sustainably here with our economic and literal climate, so we build cheap houses that will last three generations and let the land itself hold most of the value for resale and rebuilding.

Fair enough. It's not like what's being constructed in most of Europe recently is good too.

>There's precious access to genuine, non industrial generic goods.

I don't know where you got that idea. Literally every town in the US of more than 5k people has a giant supermarket with a bunch of fresh veggies and fruits year around and great meat.

The only place in the USA that doesn't have good food to buy that is healthy is in the black ghetto areas. That's because they aren't profitable (supermarkets run on a small profit margin and theft and shady returns mean almost any ghetto supermarket will go out of business).

Right now at 430am in my suburb there is a Co-op supermarket open 24 hours and I can start making Kale shakes until dawn.

The other good supermarket opens up at 6am.

And IDK maybe the coke-skinny Italian-Swiss are skewing the numbers but I think I would describe the Swiss-Germans as "well fed".

The skinniest people in Western Europe IMO were the Spanish. They were not only skinny but also slight of build.

Yes.

You can smoke everywhere and I do mean everywhere. I regularly smoke when filling my car up. I smoke in my office. When I was in hospital for non smoking related illnesses I could smoke in there too, but I had to smoke in a separate room which was an outrage. I also like to smoke in restaurants and hold the cigarette with my arm in a pull up position so I can make the smoke go into the direction of other diners that are having a conversation I don't like, or are visibly foreign.

You can't smoke on the train anymore but if you go in the toilet and have one theres no alarms and no one cares.

>Never set foot in an Italian or French market. You might just go mad like those guys in lovecraft tales. It's beyond your comprehension.

I lived for 2 years in tuscany. American supermarkets are by far better. The beef is not even in the same universe. Italian veggies taste better but the quality control just isn't the same as in America.

We have mexico and all of central and south america to give us year round fruits and veggies.

Good luck finding anything other than a blood orange in Tuscany in February if you want some fruit.

I doubt you are even Swiss as you don't seem to respond to anything posted about your country but America truly is the land of plenty. It is the one true criticism of our culture one can levy.

It is the land of a 2lb porterhouse, 650 HP musclecars, giant open spaces, trucks with lifts, fake tits, awesome cocaine and telling people to fuck off because we can.

Go and rent a convertible mustang and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway.

You'll want to never go back to your mid century modern furniture and 1.2L engined hatchback.

Europe is great, but Canada and the USA have things that Europe can only dream of. These things have attracted the average man to come to these countries for a better life for centuries.
>>

Here isn't too expensive.

Milk - 1 Euro a litre
Beer, supermarket. 70 cent 500ml can. 6 good bottles - 5 euros.
Beer, bar - 2.80-3.80 per 500ml
Dinner, mid level - 15 Euros with an alcoholic drink
Cigarettes - 4.40 per 20 lucky strike

Rent is cheaper outside large cities. Clothing is relatively expensive compared to North America. Public transport is incredibly cheap. You can live well on a normal wage.

Vancouver is very young compared to basically every big world-renouned city. So we still need another century or so to figure our architectural style out. Our houses are wood and plastic and designed to be replaced every ~50 years because we don't have this idea of handing down our little medieval hut down the family tree for 20 generations. None of us have the experience (or desire?) to stay in one place for so long.

And yeah, our housing prices are total bullshit. More than half my paycheck goes to the bank, so they will let me live in this house that they own on my behalf.

I've always wondered what it's going to be like in a couple hundred years when all the big structures that were built in the 20th century start crumbling. Not just skyscrapers but bridges and dams too.

I mean structures have come and gone throughout history, but due to the boom in technology so much of our modern world was constructed around the same time period. They're all built from less permanent materials than ancient structures like the pyramids, so they're only going to last so long before they all start falling apart at the same time.
We're already nearing a point where the transportation infrastructure is all falling apart.

>>68863958
architecture in the British isles you have to remember is organic, houses here are often literally 100-200-300 years old.

most buildings pre 1945 are either the original, heavily modernised original or built on top of out of the materials of the building there before.

Americas and Australia mainly only have these in the old civic buildings or centres of cities.

they had/have abundant cheap materials to produce housing, needed a lot of it to deal with immigration in the early 20th century.

also land was/is cheap there, you had to find a way to make a profit, so you built homes cheaply.

In the UK land is very expensive so you can make a mark up off the land value rather added with a high quality new build home or likely due to the heritage and construction of the house (which you likely would have bought off some one else as the building is centuries old)

>That's if Trudeau doesn't fuck it up before then
He already did. Trudeau Sr. that is. He killed our nation and now his son is back to piss on the grave.

The British multiculturalism policy was influenced by the world's first national multiculturalism policy. Pierre Trudeau's from 1971. It's better to stay in the UK.

Sounds amazing and perfectly reasonable. Thanks for your helpings. Umm. Is there an underground tobacco market? And. You don't need to buy your booze off the government? Neat. What's kind of cool is that Italy's tobacco is a state monopoly. Like China. Also. Which party wins your nation mostly? If there is a mostly, there?

What is Victoria like?

My family was seriously looking at emigrating there in the mid 2000's before that glorious dream died.

Explain to me what I, in another life or parallel universe would be experiencing

nobody likes you Austria. Not as fun as Bavaria, not as rich as Switzerland. Just because you birthed Hitler doesn't mean we have to take you seriously.
