When I was in high school, the basic cliques we had were stoners, metalheads, goths/punks, theater/bandnerds, legit computer nerds (when it was uncool), regularfags and the jocks who got most of the qt 3.14 pussy.
I saw goths and punks "evolved" into emofags. Then emo died and hipsters came through. Are the edgelords in highschool now the hipsters? What happened to the goth or "I listen to brooding music and dye my hair black and wear death shit" scene?

When I was in high school (2010-2014), I observed that there weren't a whole lot of cliques, but there were goths and emos cliques. But they were also "evolved" in that they were the biggest faggots in the school with died hair with colors ranging from one end of the visible spectrum to the other. I can tell you that when I was in high school (graduated in 2009) the cliques were as follows:
1.) The popular crowd (consists of preps and jocks)
2.) Skaters
3.) Emos (although, not a lot of them)
4.) Geeks (the "gifted" kids)
5.) Bad kids (general fuck ups who always got in trouble. The trash)
6.) Gamers (you can tell who they were by the fact that their lunch tables were all male and they dressed poorly and had greasy, messy hair. no joke)
7.) Neo-Metalheads (sometimes confused with emos, but they generally wore band shirts and dressed in black. Pretty much the mid-late 2000s rendition of those guys who always wore iron maiden shirts in the late 80s)
8.) Neutral crowd (they often overlapped with the popular kids. They didn't bother to subscribe to the appearance or behavior of a clique, they just went about their business)
I noticed this starting to phase out by my junior year. Suddenly, there were less emo kids, and those who belonged to cliques started to phase into a more neutral mass.
Graduated last year. Cliques definitely exist but they are not as strict as who gets in.

The goth kids i found were all in the stoners or weebs or special ed. I was in special edu due to auditory processing and severe depression. Or out of school for some odd reason the stoners loved me even though i dont do weed. Lot of goths there. A local school district here stopped suspending and giving detention to trouble-making kids in the name of "equity", which is code for "make sure black kids get punished less... or else" at the behest of the school district and it's been a disaster. Teachers get attacked almost every week, one had to be put in the hospital, and the district is doing nothing to stand behind the faculty. One teacher tried to speak out about the problem and got attacked immediately by Black Lives Matter and called a racist and demanded he resign.

Graduated in 2014. Definitive separate social circles did not really exist. Large divides were seen between the Pre-AP and AP students and the general population of the school but other than that most students were very socially mobile. It's not really that these separate groups have ceased existing so much as it is that everyone largely becomes able to be a part of any group. I hung out with christian metal head, but was irreligious and didn't listen to much music. ultimately i think understanding between individual has helped to destroy the individuality of certain groups.

The people saying there are no more cliques are correct. You have groups of friends mainly defined by who sits with who at lunch and who hangs out with who after school. there are a few bridge gappers who know many people and can jump from group to group and introduce people to different groups. The groups themselves though are all the same.
If you wanted to you could classify each group by popularity level. You usually have one or two at the top. You always have the beta group or two into anime an vidya with the social problems. Other than that though everyone just blends in. No one really has an identity which is nice for people like me. I burn through friends every year or so due to petty shit or I just become uninterested. Luckily I am not socially autistic which makes it easy to jump from friend to friend, group to group. I find the first few months of knowing someone are the best and like I said thereare no differences between groups right now.

I graduated a few years ago from a wealthy white public school in Texas. Wasn't really like how it is in the movies we saw (most people got along, no open bullying, etc) and we didn't have a ton of minorities other than the sons of former Dallas Cowboys, Nigerian immigrants, and Indians. A few whitewashed Hispanics and Asians here and there.
We had:
- jocks/chads/richfags/Staceys usually divided by sports, degenerate in a hedonistic/partying way, otherwise conservative. Most ended up joining SEC fraternities. Football and sports in general were HUGE at my school. A large majority of the black kids at my school were athletes with the token hipster.
- stoners/fuckups, not much to say
- theater and band kids who were a world unto themselves
- "country" people who were basically rednecks or actual cowboys
- a distinct "Christian" subculture that combined a lot of very liberal/cuckish ways of speaking, clothing styles, social activism, etc, with evangelical beliefs and church style. Worth pointing out most kids were religious to some extent, but these people had their own thing going on
- tumblr/indie people. They weren't usually the 300lb blue haired variety you'd find on 4chan, a lot of them were actually fairly attractive and smart, just cucks
- normalfags, which the vast majority of the student body. Most people were sort of involved with most of the groups at one point.
- Overachievers. Basically perfectionists that excelled at everything they did. On the nerdy but cool side (think valedictorian-types)
- Future stemlords and engineers. Lots of dudes like this. Autistic to some extent but not too bad.
- Outcasts. Basically people with bad hygiene/overtly autistic or with obvious problems. Nobody would mess with them (never saw the old-school bullying thing I saw in movies outside of middle school, would have been really looked down on)

My HS was really big and ethnically diverse living in South Fl. There wernt any real groups or cliques but most of the F.O.B kids knew each other in their respective groups (Haitians Cubans Dominicans etc). In this generation its more about the label than the group.
For example i knew plenty of girls that fit the post-scene profile but never hung out together because i guess people have become more tolerant of people unlike themselves.

Went to highschool in america. I was one of the smart kids that would get fed up with all the dumbfucks. Went to school 2 days a week and still 100% tests, essays and pracs. All the popular kids seemed to like me because I would just give them answers to tests or homework If the teacher was stupid enough to use the same passwords for there emails,dropboxes as computer logins. The Rugby Players..Same as the footballers but from wealthy families and were all great at school. This was the most popular group in my school, didn't get with the Stacys from the school beside us bc they were getting with Stacy's from towns outside of ours. This included the ultimate Chad of my year that everyone loved as well as a guy with a photographic memory who got maximum points in his final exams and got the highest score on the medicine entrance exam.
Then you had the stoners
The nerdy ones who watched Doctor Who and Anime and shit like that, all one group of like 10 guys.
Then you had the musicians. Not like band geeks. They all played guitar or sang or whatever. All had a kinda hipster thing going for them.
