And somehow rebels represent the majority of Syrians according to US, and he won with 70+% of voters. Are US really trying to say people were afraid to vote against him, but not to pick up weapons and rebel ?
In his interviews, he always stays calm and on point and never goes mad when you accuse him of using chemical weapons for example on his own people, but presents rational arguments, calmly, as to why that would be a disaster.
People in the west seem to think that you can just overthrow a dictator, put democracy, and then everything is better, everything is magically fixed. It's not, it only makes things worse with rampant corruption, selling off national assets, awarding positions only to those that fought with you. It needs to be a gradual process, slowly reducing his power, willingly, putting educated people on right positions, a process that would take years, democratic elections should be the last step of the reforms, not the first.
Not to mention that all propaganda against him that branded him a butcher and a traitor who used chemical weapons on his people, turned out to be false.
And Syrian people still support him, if you ask the refugees, majority hopes Assad wins.

Barrel bombing is a real thing, no matter what some people will tell you, targeting areas under rebel control doing little other then causing them to hate him more, and the NDF has committed atrocities against civilians as well(even if he didn't order them and they aren't exactly under strict control, he definitely seems to turn a blind eye towards them. It's foolish to say that Assad has done no wrong in this conflict, as it is war and you have to do terrible things in war.

I think their capabilities are definitely overestimated, but I've heard good things from western volunteers fighting with them. My guess would be it's like any rebel group in Syria, some are piss poor and some are above average in terms of capabilities.

There are like less than 100 western fighters, they are barely making a dent in the fighting.

The Kurds aren't a single entity, I'm sure most of the fighters are poorly trained cannon fodder, but like in any army the kurds have smaller groups of veteran fighters who have western training and weapons. Obviously they are getting wrecked in Turkey as they couldn't possibly stand up to an even average modern force. ISIS wouldn't last a month against a US force but they are sure giving everyone else in the area a hell of a time.
