They destroyed three of four Jap carriers. And the Americans repaired their USS Yorktown after the initial attack, so when she was attacked again, the Japs thought they were attacking another carrier.
Pretty dumb, and some trolling irl as well. Coincidently, a month earlier at Coral Sea the Japs thought they'd sank Yorktown along with Lexington. When she made it back to Pearl Harbor it was estimated that she needed two months repair to be back at sea. She was repaired in 48 hours.
The guys that repaired this ship in two days have always been heroes of mine. That's what men can do if they have the stamina and fortitude. Imagine if we were all like that, what we can achieve.
