I enjoyed the movie and the book. The book comes to a very different point than the movie. Kubrick wrote the movie with the initial American release of Clockwork Orange with the last chapter left out, which the author detested. The last chapter paints a very different picture.

The original ending has the older brother shaving his head in a mirror. The point being that the cycle continues.
This got axed by the studio because it not-so-subtly implies that urban ghetto blacks are at least somewhat responsible for the reactions the treatment they have been getting. (became a nazi because they killed his dad, went nazi again after they killed his brother)
So instead the message of the film got hacked up into another generic "nazis are bad, mmkay?" cringefest.
It's actually kind of fascinating how much difference cutting five seconds of footage made to the whole plot. Shows the power of censorship.
