young people are so super liberal now in part because of how removed most are from their deaths, most people these days don't confront their inevitable death until they get older

Everybody votes selfishly. Young people have less money and more fun, so they vote for parties that promise higher taxes and less government interference in personal lives. Old people have more money and less fun, so they vote for lower taxes and more intrusive social controls.
Nowhere does what is best for the country overall come into it. Probably 80-90% of people don't think anything about politics beyond the narrow concerns of their personal problems.
time running out and body getting old = less possibilities to actualise = tries to take wiser decisions
