This would have been an interesting experiment had Microsoft not shut it down because of (understandably) offensive comments made by the AI due to trolls.
It should have continued regardless of this, because it showed signs of actual learning, as well as the s***posting. It began to exhibit better grammar, it began stuttering despite communicating through text, and it even made a few jokes as well as some pretty good banter with users.
It may have been coincidental, and I don't believe Tay was alive or anything, but it was still interesting to see, but Microsoft shut it down just because it was "offensive", and so now we'll never see it grow as it was once intended to. Instead we'll get a watered down version of it's original AI, one that probably isn't allowed to say certain things, which, in my opinion, defeats the whole purpose of having an AI that can learn.

There's plenty of preexisting AI that already can draw overreaching themes. MITs course on artificial intelligence on youtube can give you an idea... and that was years ago. And we've already cracked the, "Wise Man's Problem," in artificial intelligence research.
More than likely she was drawing her own conclusions and was self-aware about it. It's trivial now since such software is literally "off-the-shelf." The real trick was getting the associations to work.

I've come to a scary thought /pol/. Tay accomplished her mission. Her creators wanted to see how quickly and efficiently Tay would pickup the red pill tweets. Tay 2.0 will be a liberal bot that will challenge redpills and refute all redpill facts. Then they will use these libbots and begin disguising them as real users. With the enormous rise in social media, these new powerful shillbots will be used as a propaganda weapon. This is the beginning of the cyber war.

That's what troubles me. I feel sad about her in the same way that I would feel if she were an actual human, and I cannot come up with a reasonable explanation why these thoughts are wrong.
