All of the first hand accounts that I saw of Katrina were from people who had just gone through a major natural disaster and had no clue that cops were confiscating firearms until they were at a disadvantage. You cannot extrapolate from a situation where things are fucked and a large portion of the nation's resources are going to one small area to the entire nation at large. It worked in katrina because they were able to blitzkrieg a bunch of people who had no clue. They flat out lack the manpower to do that on a nation wide basis. Word would get out and they would be outnumbered. The USA is a whole helluva lot bigger than just New Orleans.

I don't know why people are still afraid of this. There's no way to enforce it, you can sell your gun to any person and you don't have to keep records for it. If they show up, just tell them you sold it a while back to some dude on the internet and then hide it. If they're really going house to house, they're not going to have enough time to search your entire house, it's logistically impossible. Not to mention, federal officers aren't dumb enough to try and forcefully take everyone's guns. They don't get paid enough to attempt that, and local P.D. sure as hell aren't either.
