It turns a 4 year university degree into the equivalent of a high school degree
>>
>>68677924
If you compare it to germany's university system, you can see that is not the case
>>
>>68675940
It's not the "free" part that's the problem, it's that in America EVERYONE gets to go to college.

If everyone has been then it really doesn't make you stand out of the crowd.

College should be free, but only people who have demonstrated the academic ability should get to go.

The liberal run American education system still thinks everyone should pass, whether they try or not.

>see no child left behind
>>
>>68675940
No, Im almost as Liberal as it gets, and even I know "Free public college" is a bad idea
>>
>>68678037
Germany's university system is shit
>>
>>68675940
The best options are some more specific and important fields (not overly specific, you won't get shit from getting 600 nuclear physicians), but for example:
>It's expected to have less doctors than it'd be good to have in 5 or so years
>Hence medicine is cheaper AND if you work in the country you get a better rate on your loan
>>
College shouldn't be totally free, but it shouldn't be $40,000 for 2 years either.

I go to a university that charges me about $6-7k a semester, together with financial aid I only end up having to take out a loan for $2k every semester, meaning I'll be in debt about $16k by the time I finish. That's not bad, that's payoffable for sure, it's like a car loan. But that $30k/year shit from other universities is fucking stupid. No one wants to go to college and have to pay a loan for what is basically a Lamborghini.
>>
>>68678258
Why?
>>
>>68678152

This

College is supposed to be for a small slice of the population . High school s here are dumbing everything down because of muh liberal complaints , so university is needed

It wastes everybody's time , and a lot of people's money

It will make good Ivy League schools lower prices to be competitive, allowing talented young Americans to actually achieve a high standard education while the rest of young Americans can go to decent state schools.
>>
>>68678037
>university in germany is free
I see you never went to Uni.
>>
>>68675940
I actually think "free", as in government paid for, college makes sense, even from a conservative perspective. See, there is some talent within the lower classes that would be wasted if these people were unable to attend college. It makes sense as an investment to educate these people. It should be accompanied with rigorous testing though, and the taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for any bullshit degrees. Only the best and the brightest should have their education free, and only in fields where they're needed.
>>
>>68678258
And this you know from experience with educational systems of different countries? You'll need a better reason than "I said so"
>>
>>68678376
>soft science
Memorize as much as you can as fast as you can.
>hurr durr germany academic education is free hurr durr
Still have to pay 200 € per semester + rent + food.

Want to become a doctor? Only got a 3.0 in your Abitur? Well, wait 7 years and try your luck.

The STEM subjectes are great though. My subject is taught rather practical and personal. You'll get pretty close to your profs, if you aren't a retard.
>>
>>68678511
I actually am going right now. It doesn't cost nothing, but I find 150€ a year more affordable than 13k a semester
>>
>>68679277
This. Get rid of all things remotely close to gender studies and that kind of bullshit. Make them privately paid for if you want to get that kind of degree.
>>
College should be free, just not paid for by taxing the fuck out of the rich.
>>
>>68679441
>want to be a doctor?
>don't give a shit about your abitur
I don't see a problem
>>
>>68679277

I look at this as just a better reason to scrap bloated "university" systems and go back to apprenticeship and rigorous internships instead.
>>
>>68675940
The US already has free college. Its called getting a scholarship. If you can't get one. You probably can't pass college classes anyway. Also, what is a Pell Grant?

Sure, you might not go to MIT, but you can certainly go to a nice tech school for free or almost free, and get a good paying job.

Americans are just whiny cunts.
>>
>>68679535
so how is it gonna be free?
>>
everyone who can be taught higher learning and pursues it will have no barrier to entry, thus ensuring that everyone is educated to their realistic potential.
>>
>>68679772
>what is austerity
>>
>>68678037
From the little I know, the German system is much more rigorous than the US one.

Additionally, college is basically free in the US as it stands if you want go to community colleges. All of these Bernie fags want the government to pay for them to go to Stanford, Harvard, and Yale which is fucking stupid.

There is so much scholarship money floating around in the US it's insane. Most people are just too lazy to find it.

What would trump do?
>>
If college were free for needed skills and professions it would be beneficial.
In US history colleges were fairly inexpensive and free for some.

As more money was pumped into the college system the education stayed the same and you got more bureaucracy and not less expensive education.

Between 1975 and 2005, total spending by American higher educational institutions, stated in constant dollars, tripled, to more than $325 billion per year. Over the same period, the faculty-to-student ratio has remained fairly constant, at approximately fifteen or sixteen students per instructor. One thing that has changed, dramatically, is the administrator-per-student ratio. In 1975, colleges employed one administrator for every eighty-four students and one professional staffer—admissions officers, information technology specialists, and the like—for every fifty students. By 2005, the administrator-to-student ratio had dropped to one administrator for every sixty-eight students while the ratio of professional staffers had dropped to one for every twenty-one students.

Just like public restrooms with free toilet paper and running water, some people think education is a public service that is just a "no brainer" to make college one of those free public services.

My point is that college education is worth much more than a couple rolls of toilet paper. If you reduce the value of a college education, the QUALITY of it will also be reduced. If any of you went to more than one college whether it be through community college or other transfers, you can tell which professors get paid more than others. The ones that get paid less don't care as much. You'll pretty much be teaching yourself everything while they sit on their ass and add zero insight to what the textbook says. This is the education system free college will create. maybe not immediately, but eventually, it will come to that. Harvard and community college will be one in the same because the teachers will all be paid the same. Do you want a lawyer who went to community college defending you?

Here's one...which do you think is the stronger society:
-the one that gives its members the ability to move up in life, to learn, to become productive and cultured citizens
-the one that sets up a rigidly stratified class structure where advancement isn't based on merit but on what family you were born to

If we don't have compulsory state-subsidized education we guarantee ourselves the second. Free market can't create the first society because when it's "every man for himself," you just get a society where there are a few people on top fucking everyone else over to prevent more competition.

LMAO I remember in 6th grade when Bush was still pres, I kept leaving my science labs in my dirty locker, then once I cleaned out my locker, I went from a 60% to a 100% in my science class and I got a signed letter from Bush commending me for what a great job I did. literally all I did was clean my locker.

One reason college and uni cost so much is because of bullshit side costs that administrators have encouraged. To teach someone you don't need:
-a cafeteria
-dorms
-gift shops
-book stores
-sports teams
-a thousand fucking buildings
-art projects
-and so on
Most of the cost of modern uni are from things like that. Pork barrel bullshit that crooked administrators set up with crooked shit-pushing businesses. Has nothing to do with teaching. If you fired all the fucking useless administrators and hired a new crop, told them not to spend any more fucking money on things unrelated to EDUCATION, you would definitely see the quality of education go up.

Because right now we have all that extra shit, college costs an arm and a leg, and the quality of education at most places is still absolute dogshit. Look at a middle school textbook from the first half of the century and you'll see they actually expected the students to think - the questions are fucking hard. Today students are so busy entertaining ourselves and rooting for mongoloid sportsball players that they just can't cut the mustard educationally, then the dumbass administrators just lower the standards so that nobody important realizes how much quality we've lost.
>>
>>68681534
I have a 3.0 too. It's just that I have been told over and over that I obviously didn't care enough. I actually learned more than most of my grade. It was very soul crushing if I think about it.
>>
>>68677924
In my area, we have Benedict college. It is unaccredited, basically all black school. Obama visited this school a while back, like he condones black people spending thousands of dollars to receive a useless degree. This is what I imagine free school becoming.
