First and foremost the ecstasy pills were generally much higher dosed, plentiful, cheap, and less likely to be cut with other bullshit.

Also much better music as well as Stone Cold Steve Austin

i'm a highschool senior (18) and i'm in a sociology class, and when she talks about the generational gap between us and her, my teacher (early-mid 30's) keeps saying that like it's a positive thing. why?
>>
>>68673046

People didn't take themselves as seriously.

Kids were still kids, not mouthy little shits.

No social media.

Music was better.

Video games were better.

I thought a lot of 90s movies sucked but we did have Jurassic park and that was a huge fucking deal.
>>
>>68673046
No degenerate internet culture. No SJWs or hashtag activism, in fact social media was essentially nonexistent and your social group really did consist of people you saw face-to-face. Terrorism hadn't crept into the daily conscious life of every first-worlder. OP's mom was still sucking my wang on the daily.
>>
>>68676018
In all actuality I just mostly had shit written down and remembered a handful of numbers. Like I still remember maybe around 8 or so offhand without looking. I'd imagine most people were more or less the same at the time. I doubt much has really changed in that regard. I'd think most kids today would remember at least a couple of phone numbers right?
>>
>>68673046

Because they were free and the US / Europe were majority white.

You would go out and have a good time without being hastled by cops. You were free to not only draw stuff but fight in school without facing expulsion. You were free to play pranks without being charged with terrorism laws and you could talk shit without being jailed for terroristic threats.

Nowadays if you look at someone wrong and are white its grounds for expulsion. If you talk shit the swat team shows up at your house and hauls you off to federal prison and the US is not only about 50% welfare recipients but also for the last two years the majority of babies born here have been no white and the most common child's name in Europe is mohammed.

The good news is that you are just the right age to experience the total collapse of western civilization. That is something special cause most people live in the beginning or after the collapse, we are right in the thick of it.

That's basically what everyone did then, along with a few friends/family numbers. Outside of that just have a little booklet or piece of paper where it's all written down. Stronger family interaction, internet was more of a novelty than the centralization of socialization, people were dumber and it was still okay to believe in magic and wonder back then.

Everyone today is jaded, addicted, drugged, sexually overstimulated, cynical, and far more political.

The main difference? It's not really an actual thing I can pinpoint, but the feeling to me is overall attitude. It's also reflected in our entertainment industries. The late 80's and early 90's were all about being RADICAL and AWESOME. Notice there's lots of color in everything. People still kinda believed in ghosts and various forms of mysticism. Not everything was as figured out as it is today.

Then look at today in entertainment: everyone is a badass. Women are all strong emotioness no-nonsense husks that can beat up the boys. No color anywhere, everything is washed out and drab. It's all about how "badass" the character is. It's all about narcissism. No fun, just realism and badass.

The 80's 90's was this period where you could kinda be a "mysterious guy" or have these interesting experiences with different people. Because when you met people with unique hobbies or kind of a weird personality or quirks, it was a thing to talk about with others. Now it's just like "Hey look at these 1000 videos online!", everyone has access to porn, everyone can access these experiences, so it's nothing special. Being on television used to be something to brag about.

There's just no mystery or magic left that existed in the 80's and 90's.

He signed the global trade agreements, allowing companies to outsource America's industrial sector

he repealed Glass Steagal, allowing the 2008 crash to happen.

that said, to be fair, Bush 1 started the economic deals, and Republican congress pushed them to Bill's desk.

But Bill still signed them so he's just as guilty.

Star Trek lost hard every time. The turbo autists established "objective" standards of comparison for both universes based on the Star Trek Technical Manual and Incredible Cross-Sections (for Wars), both of which were written by people with science degrees and contained tons of numbers. Yes they did math, I even remember some calculus used to determine power output of the Death Star based on an earth sized planets gravitational binding energy.

The results were so biased toward Star Wars that a single star destroyer would destroy pretty much the entire Federation fleet. Much fapping was done to the awesome might of the Empire crushing the faggoty Trek hippies.

the 90's were riding high on peace and prosperity, and much like after WW2, the US boomed, after the USSR's collapse it boomed. the world was relatively at peace aside from a few minor conflicts.

it truly was the end of the old world. The last great decade before the end. The culmination of the postwar boom that started in the 50's.

it's worth noting, that Boomers were hitting their peak by the 90's. With the oldest among them hitting their mid-late 40's by 1990. They were still basically the main inhabitants. (and the majority of them were white) And for all the talk of them ruining the economy, and rigging it, at least it was rigged for them, in their and their family's favors. So things were good.

wild times the 90's were.

They weren't.

Your brain portrays times in the past as perfectly golden and beautiful but that's only because you've forgotten all the weird shit that happened in your childhood.

I was born in 1994 and when 9/11 rolled around that set off my interest for politics and global affairs. Around a year later I realised that the 90's were actually quite shit.

But in the end...

>Why were people so happy in the 90's?
There were just as many unhappy people as there is now. The difference was the lack of visibility (no social networking) and a generally positive media. Cynicism is more abundant these days, BUT a lack of cynicism only implies happiness, while it simply does not document unhappiness.

This is like people looking back on Victorian times and wondering why people stopped being moral and gentlemanly/ladylike. The answer is that they never were, but the historians who wrote the books and the writers were socially conservative and wanted to portray the world in a better light than it was.

If /pol/ had been around in the 90s:
>Why do we have a fucking nigger apologist as a president
>Implying the Jews are not subverting the presidency through monica
>What will you do when the government pulls another Waco/Ruby Ridge
>The smear campaign against McVeigh
>The "rioters" in Los Angeles dindunuffin
>Detroit is the future of all American cities
etc.

My thing about you guys is that you always make it seem like the present sucks worse than anytime ever in the History of humanity. Its not the best, but the individual struggles of our lives are not of any greater significance than your parents, are most of Western civilization since WWII.

Shit sucks, and especially politics has become a deadend, but the biggest problem is that we compare how we are now to the cherrypicked ideals which existed in circumstances that were entirely situational in nature. If you were a shit-tier janitor or migrant worker in the 90s, your existence today
is pretty much just as shitty and just as good.

Well stated. Jews have been dominating and winning for a long time.

This is typical for people to idealize history. The truth is that the only time in history with an exceptional society was the Third Reich.

I think we should all appreciate the great achievements of Adolf Hitler and seek to emulate and replicate that model. For all of his shortcomings, Hitler was a great visionary.

Basically it was one of the best times ever to be a regular assed white person. No guilt culture pervading everything or cucked mindsets all over the place. It was comfy as hell and the only thing missing for half of it to the wider population was the internet, but that may have well been what killed it culturally. Not perfect obviously, never is, but if I got the chance to redo my 20's in another decade going back to the 90's would be at the top of my list.

Where did it all go so horribly wrong? Mind you, I spent the 1991 - 1995 period in a fucking warzone of epic proportions and yet I had so, so much fun with my friends. We ran wild bro, rural setting, Dalmatia, endless summers filled with scraped knees, hide & seek and innocent sexual exploration that grew from US and not some bullshit seen on the Net. I watched Cartoon Network and RTL Zwei via satellite dish, had a Game Boy some friendly Germans bought for me (family friends) and I shared that bad boy with all my friends. I used to bring my cassette player on our usual dusty playground, and we'd listen to Nirvana and stuff, and then older boys and men would join us and talk about Deep Purple, The Doors and so on. We were a community, a genuine community. A li'l town where everyone knows everyone and NO ONE would dare hurt you. We were unsupervised for 99% of our childhood. I so fondly remember how my neighbour would occassionally bring out his AK 47 and impress us boys, and we'd pose with it for photos and so on and on.

It is a dead world. We both got to experience something similar, yet different. The same, yet half the planet apart.

This whole shitty ordeal of globalised, tasteless shit pseudo-culture and issues on every turn sickens me. Shit kids everywhere, shit people everywhere, drooling morons glued to their smartphones and chicks with hipster glasses. All the same, all plastic, all fake, bland, tasteless, empty and meaningless.

we're turning 30 this year guys!!

times before 9/11 were so awesome.
we grew up with nintendo NES, sega genesis, super nintendo, playstation, nintendo 64, etc.
we played with nerf balls, water guns (super soakers), pogs, remote-controlled cars
we were active, we played football on the streets in the rain, played soccer in our driveways,
we grew up with the original nickelodean and nick at night, mtv (when it actually was a music channel), WWF (bret harte, lex luger, macho man, mr perfect, shawn michaels, british bulldog, yokozuna, undertaker, legion of doom, bam bam bigelow, vader, mankind, steve austin, the rock, sable, tori wilson, etc. etc.
back then, our parents were employed. they took us to school in the mornings, were home by the time we were out of school. we ate dinner with them.
we didn't have cell phones, we hung out with all the kids from the neighborhood, we wrestled in our backyards.
>now look at the junk we have to deal with in 2016: selfies, social media zombies, couch potatoes, bernie fags, liberal arts majors,

The economy was better.

People did not understand the internet, they just knew it was the new big thing. So a lot of tiny websites were given a lot of investments. They didn't actually do anything with the money, investors celebrated, and good times wwre had by all. Then some bitch politician revealed the money wasn't going anywhere and everything was being held up by a invisible wall. Everything crumbled and the tiny websites were abandond when they realized they were not a goldmine.

>The truth is that the only time in history with an exceptional society was the Third Reich.

While I do not support Facism, you are correct that there was am exceptional melding of people and leaders. As Hegel said of the an idealized Prussia/Napoleanic state, the greatest states are those where the people and the leader reciprocate one another in such a way that ideology is merely a universal direction in society, all state struggles are external, and History is controlled by the leader and the people in a situation which he calls "The Weltgeist." The Third Reich only achieved the base level of Weltgeist, but even the effects of that unity placed Germany in an unprecedented revcovery of power leading into WWII.

On the other hand, this does not allow for modernity, which while modernity encourages dissonance, selfish individualism, bureaucratic self-interest, and a separation of governance and people, it also allows for the ideas and ideologies which have lead to the computer revolution, largely unfettered freedom of expression, and the existence of a website like 4chan.

Facism is great if you are interested in the glory of you and your people, and its not if you're not, or you happen to not be in that group to begin with.

Don't you mean:

>Why were people in AMERICA so happy in the 90's?

It's a myth that the 90s were great era for the world. The reason the 90s is considered a good decade for the United States is because the collapse of the USSR left it as the sole superpower on Earth, Islamic terrorism wasn't talked about much as was considered a minor threat, the U.S. economy was healthy, the internet was this exciting new thing which opened up a whole new world of possibilities and the middle-class still felt like it was getting richer. These are some of the reasons the U.S. finished the century on a high, and thus corresponding to that is a generally happy population. But for the rest of the world is just another decade of the same shit.

Seriously. 90s in Nigeria? Shit. 90s in Belarus? Shit. 90s in Yugoslavia? Shit. 90s in Somalia? Shit. 90s in most of South America? Shit. 90s in Japan? Shit (considered "lost decade"). 90s in Russia? Shit. 90s in most of the Middle East? Shit. 90s in most of Europe? Mostly shit a part from Germany.

Now fast forward to 2016 and everyone's in the shit lol. China's economic bubble could collapse any day bringing down the entire world economy, ISIS could strike any European capital they want due to open borders and North Korea is building intercontinental ballistic missiles to fire nukes and nobody is doing anything to stop them.

We are currently living in a golden era for memes though, so there's that.

I noticed that about racism too. Back then racism was when you actually went out of your way to hurt someone. There's an amazing resonance between my childhood and the childhood of US kids who grew up in the 90s like we did. I always found that fascinating for genuine reasons. Nevermind the media, it was nothing compared to what we have now in terms of penetration/oversaturation - there was a shared experience because the fundamental underlying psyche was the same. We were all "normal" for lack of better term, and our childhood and development went along natural lines. It was organic. It wasn't a set of imposed bullshit like the current world is. Our "rules" were internal rules of boys and girls who LIVED without having assholes tell us what to do or how to do it, what to think and how to act. We were genuine, and we were smiling.

For nostalgia purposes, here's something my group really liked. Basically everyone, male and female, watched and loved this show. Look at it, young ones. Look at the vid and think, think how utterly impossible it is today for something like this to exist. A white boy who is a genuine hero, who flirts with girls left and right, doesn't take any shit and is cocky as hell? No SJW bullshit, no forced diversity, nothing. Just that sweet, sweet 90s awesomness that doesn't take itself seriously but aims for pure fun:

I can say that growing up the experience was more human. If you were over at someone's house you might also meet their neighbor and all play video games together, play tag, etc. I don't think a lot of kids are lucky enough to live in a nice place and have their parents trust them to run around neighborhoods and go over to other houses.

I can't really say for the adult experience but I know it was better, more relaxed. You could go outside wearing huge glasses and stupid clothes and nobody outside of a country club would laugh at you. You could get a regular job without submitting to drug tests and outright scrutiny as long as your attitude was good; now it's all about image and corporate policy that owns you.

Also we didn't have information shoved down our throats 24/7 unless you were a fucking faggot and listened to rush limbaugh every day. You might watch celebrity gossip and then 60 minutes every week, take in that information and form your own opinion. I remember after 9/11 I was for the war, and my dad was against it. Later we had internet and a proliferation of information, I was against the war and my dad was for it.

No, fuck your shit. We in Croatia lived better and had more material goods and disposable income in 1995, following a TOTAL WAR and massive industrial damage (not even taking into account other material damage which you cannot even comprehend) than we do now. We are collectively worse off as a whole now, as a EU member than we were following a total war. I cannot stress this enough. We are worse people, mentally and physically than we were in the 90s. Everyone is.

So stop cherrypicking and repeating the "it was an US thing" meme. It wasn't. The 90s were the last time Europe was glorious as well, and many other places.

As I said before the world of today is an abominated abortion compared to what we had, collectively.

they sort of did start to get better for a bit as people allowed themselves to feel again. I remember SNL had Giuliani on the show basically telling NY "it's ok to laugh again", and NY started to do that thing NY does where it gets together and perseveres.

even when the war started in 2003, people didnt really get the extent of what was going on. not till maybe 2005 or 6 or so when it became clear this wasnt going to be as simple as Desert storm.

Happy?

As I remember it, we were all depressed as hell.

Sure we had "The Economy", but it didn't make us happy.

Let's talk about the 7. Oh wait, Never existed.

Was born in 1986, 90s were great. I had aol and shit and prodigy from a young age but only messed around with it for like an hour a night. Too busy playing tackle football in the backyard. Always riding our bikes. Constantly moving or playing some type of sports.

Everyone wasn't some type of fake activist blm, feminist etc.... No muslims, niggers in my area were under control.

not really. nostalgia, at least the brand demonstrated ITT, is a negative emotion, so that's a plus for me.

That used to be me not that long ago. Now I'm getting kind of back on track with studying and I recently started getting in touch with some old friends and started bouldering which is really fun.

Don't give up hope anon. Even if you've been stuck in a rut for many years you can always start making small changes to turn things around for the better.
