I'd say it really started getting bad in the mid 2000s. But I was born in 87, and lived in a very small town in KY. The internet wasn't as prevalent then, and so the whole "one culture" thing hadn't started spreading yet. Maybe I was still just around small town values.

actually the 00s were a pretty good time. it went downwards after facebook got popular in 07/08. The same time the internet transformed from some "shady virgin place and anime weirdos" to the "dank memefactory".
