Why do people hate banks? Is it because they're pleb at life and have to rely on loans? Then the debt burden becomes so big, hanging over them day in and day out.
Banks are financial superpowers that claim to help the little guy when all they do is force them to rely on them. We didn't used to require credit or loans to buy cars, etc. but now we do. They control a very sensitive part of our lifestyle.

You've never had a bank delay your deposits most of a business day, but immediately resolve your payments, causing you to go $1 negative briefly.
Then you are hit with a $36 fee. If things work out really well for the bank, they can time it so that the fee causes you to be short again, and they can hit you with it in quick repetition, possibly wiping out your (delayed) deposit. Then they can go fee crazy on you.

I mean, that may not be how banks work in your corner of the world, but in America the banks have bought sufficient political favor that they are allowed to pretty much fuck anyone they want.
Obama passed some regulatory oversight, but Congress kept him from chairing that committee so it couldn't be funded, then they picked apart the banking regulations themselves.
And worse yet are the Payday loan operations, which are pretty much legalized Loan Sharks.
>>68624178
Eh I haven't lived paycheck to paycheck in 20 years or so, but I do remember what it was like.
It's not very fair that they can loan out money they don't have while having the government sitting by ready to bail them out if too many people remove their deposits.
>>68624525
That's not what gets them in trouble.
What gets them in trouble is gambling everyone's savings on high-risk derivatives and debt insurance schemes, and then when THOSE fall apart they get taxpayer bailouts.
That's what happened in 2008.
Laws were passed when this happened during the Great Depression, but Phil Graham and his pals knew that if they got rid of the regulations keeping banks from gambling with people's savings, only good would come of it.

>You've never had a bank delay your deposits most of a business day, but immediately resolve your payments,
if you've been an adult for 20 years then you should understand at least the simplest aspects of banking.
deposits: have to be verified because the check may be bad.
payments. derp. you authorized it, so out it goes. why should they delay something you asked them to do? if they did, and you were hit with a late payment charge, you would cry about that too.
grow up. but then, considering that you must be about 40 already, just carry on the best you can.

They wake up one day and realise that they have to repay what they loaned.

The regulations that Obongo passed where laughable as well, maybe you should read what obongo passed because every person I know that works on the financial sector around the world says that Obongo is as bought as most republicans to perpetuate the status quo of the financial sector.
Shit Obongo had the Fed put up with QE and 0% interest rate for years and most of that money ended up inflating the stock of the financial sector and barely reaching the real economy.

People shit on BoA all the time, but they gave me a car loan when no one else would (not a bad interest rate either). They're based in my opinion.
But to answer your question, it's because they basically get mega mega rich for doing nothing but have more money than other people. They provide financial services that you need insane amounts of cash to be able to do. And they get that cash not from people depositing money, but from other larger banks.

By choice.
I have no sympathy for morons who take out unreasonable loans with banks. It's not the bank's fault they can't pay it off.
I don't hate Banks in general, but I think the practices that the many of them perform are ethically wrong and it's very fucked up as they take advantage of the poor.
2 years ago I had no job beyond temp garbage, just living off my savings and having to resort to asking for loans from my parents. Well my Bank account (Citi) went under $1500 and as a result they started taking I think $12 from my account. It's a small amount of money yes but it really pissed me off and still upsets me. It doesn't cost Citibank money for me to keep an account in their, they make shitloads of money off what people put in their accounts and we in exchange get these crappy brownie points like Frequent Flyer miles or whatever.
My grandparents kept money under their mattresses, I wish I could do the same but unfortunately heating, water, and electricity companies want to be paid digitally. So I'm stuck with banks out of convenience not because they save me money if anything they take away.
>>68629379
I'm mad at both. The one who buys politicians and the one who gets bought.
I don't care to argue and I'll leave the thread now but if you seriously don't agree with that all banter aside, you're pretty stupid.

You're the one who is saying that anyone who doesn't agree with you is stupid. What kind of unattractive attitude is that? There is no reason to hate an entire institution because of some bad apples here and there. Don't let poverty define you.

Pretty much. Banks and wall street are easy scapegoats for idiots. Most of them don't even understand the very basics of economics.
