People want to watch stuff thats primal and exciting, normal sex and violence is old school, been all over tv since the 80s and its a part of everyday life, at this point even the zombie thing has been done to death, so to be edgy and get more viewers shows have to kick it up a notch, make the sex gay/interracial, instead of just killing people get their dicks ripped off, same general concept.

I watched like two or three seasons after a lot of my friends kept telling me it's good, but I lost interest.
I then watched one episode of the later seasons and there weren't even any zombies at all it just went full drama.
I did like the pilot episode though.

I think it's more to do with the accents. Brit actors tend to sound more neutral and so appeal to a lot of different nationalities. Imagine hearing a roman with a thick californian or texan accent
