The whole Berenstein beads thing is crazy because I remember when it changed. My family is German so whenever my grandmother came over and saw the show playing she'd give us a lesson on how "stein" means "stone" in German. But worse than that is the shows theme song. Its not as simple as "at a certain time they changed the character's name and spelling moving forward" Anyone can go back and look at their old bear books and see that they all have been retroactively changed from stein to stain. That is because in this current timeline "Berenstein" never existed, the only thing that exists is people from that timeline who were shifted over and remember it that way.

My job requires me to interact with the elderly, most of whom suffer from alzheimers and dementia. What I have seen is that most of them know exactly where they are and what they are doing. The only problem is that everyone else would consider them wrong. Also, it's almost as if their sense of time is distorted. One minute they're five years old, asking when mom is getting back from church, the next they regain a bit of awareness, have no idea where they are, how old they are, and why their body doesn't work right.
