But it's more complex than just "muh dumb niggers".
Slavery crippled the South.
Because of Slavery the South never truly industrialized. They remained an agriarian state dependent on slave labor whereas the North industrialized and replaced slave labor with mechanization.
The South's reliance on slavery impeded their growth. By the time the Civil War took place Slavery was already being made irrelevant due to industrial advances in agriculture. Cotton could be picked faster and cheaper using machines than slaves.
You take that and then the subsequent ass whooping.. plus the niggers... and you get the modern day South.
It's still a beautiful place to live in though and has some of the best people in America.

The South's economy has been based on agriculture for the past 300 years, and only after the South got fucked in the Civil War did they start moving into manufacturing. Also when a ton of your population has no heritage besides slavery, you'll get a bunch of shit heads.
