Even if he doesn't have the credentials he claims to his point that these groups can't function without the support of the population is still true. If muslims in the west were serious about distancing themselves from terrorism and it's ideology the logical and easiest way would be to push for an Islamic reformation movement that discards the parts of Islam that are incompatible with western values. Considering there's very little action on that front especially in Europe it's pretty safe to assume that there's a significant element that are not interested in integration in any form.
