The "Moon man" character, being restyled as a vicious racist, can be traced to a user named "farkle" who created dozens if not hundreds (he may have deleted several, I seem to remember lots more circa 2008-2009) of sites on ytmnd.com, which are simple juxtapositions of sound and image. ytmnd was popular around 2006-09, but it's fallen off since then. The native word for a "meme" on ytmnd was/is "fad", same thing, same annoyances, possibility for replication, etc. I found a particularly funny one. Farkle was churning these out well before 2013, I know that.
