Better question is, why should anybody not qualified allowed to own guns? When I was in the military, the amount of sheer incompetence displayed by many of the conscripts was staggering, we call them "töhös" in our language. I'd rather live in a gun-free society than spend my time knowing that some of those people own guns, legally. Which is exactly what is happening right now.
I'm all for single-shot rifles and maybe shotguns used for hunting (without the possibility to attach magazines into them), but anything other than that, no. Not AR-15s or semi AK47s with high-capacity magazines for this lot that gets violent when it gets drunk (which is often), so no thanks!
