The frequency is usually used byu USAF, weird sounds are this : data or encrypted coms. Non encrypted french voices are some HAMs or someone totally messing up.
I live in France and heard sometimes police talk on non cyphered talkies but on PMR bands.
There was some english talk on this frequency, clear but only radio alphabet and numbers

>i've been getting those, but this seems to be juuust above the USAF freqs. possibly some kind of encrypted transmission? could just be some other microwave interference.

That's the aussie OTH radar, it does that. Wave form is great. Look up radio reference for more info.

If it's dead shortly, it's the aussie oth radar. If it's a different wave form and a different sound, it's ocasionally jamming.

That's why the global AF net (what we're listening to) has like 8 published frequencies and other scrambelled frequencies we don't know about.

Why is everyone going ballistic on a ham radio.

These are just radio frequencies for talk shows and music. If you do manage to find someone in another country they definitely won't be military or of any importance

Also SKYKING is for helicopters, whenever you hear SKYKING, it means a helicopter is touching down

Whoever made the image with the nuclear implications is just trying to rile you on.

I'm not saying stop going on, I like checking this stiff out, you find some funny shit. But otherwise it's nothing involving a happening anymore. Maybe during the cold war at one point.

Didn't have a camera. Just something I saw while staring out the window during a meeting a couple hours back.

There's a reasonably big international airport nearby, so there is sometimes unusual activity, but I've never seen anything like this. The diversions could be anything, but seeing them lay down a grid in person and not from some internet website was unexpectedly spooky.

What's particularly odd is that I've had a better chance to notice the skies since the time changed and so got to taking notice at how clear the skies have been and how the regular contrails disappear within a few plane-lengths. It's tempting to just conclude that it's weather-related since we're just coming out of a cold snap, but I've never seen any clear correlation with when we get trails and what the weather is doing. And it's never in a grid.

Not surprised about the rain correlation for you, though. I don't know what the trails are all about exactly, but from what I've heard there is indeed stuff going on with redirecting the flow of rain, and of course that means having to get it started off the West coast due to the wind patterns.

HAM bands are the green ones "x m amateur" with x is the wavelength
broadcast ones are pink
40m and below : LSB, upper : USB
big broadcasts are in AM

annnd anywhere outside this you have every military on the planet trying to maintain a semblance of order and organization. Also some aviation navigation frequencies.

The receptor is physically in nederlands if I am correct so you'll have north europe / north atlantic coms. And italians, a lot of italians.

Buy at least 2, program the 16 PMR channels, you are done.
Of course it's illegal to emit with this power at these frequencies but who cares, at least you don't need a license (pro or HAM operator)
Try to get in touch with amateur radio operators club and get the license, it's easy.

If you want a radio for the happening, then get one with long-wave / medium-wave / short-wave capabilities. I have a Sony ICF-SW7600GR, for instance -- not super fancy but has a good mix of features worth the money if I ever needed a radio for the HAPPENING.

It does not transmit of course, since doing that for real would require license, training, equipment, power source, real antenna, etc.

But if you have a group of people who needs portable communications that doesn't need to go a long distance, then that Beofeng looks reasonable. You'll want to get more radios than the number of people you have.

Yea I have Sony ICF-7600GR written down in recommendations list but it's pretty expensive for me, maybe later when times are better or I learn more about radios, maybe you're the one who recommended it to me if you're the ham radio guy that posts in these threads.

Anyway, could I pick up some local chatter on a Baofeng UV5R? Maybe some truck drivers talking idk lol...

Why is that?

bro here in oregon they are spraying non stop if it is an 80% or more clear sky day. Maybe i imagine because it drifts across the country going to create and or rain down whatever the fuck they are planning/doing.
but this shit is not normal. i know the difference between a chem and con trail. i'll laugh when planes are flying near and one will do a con and others are doing chem. the con vanishes quickly the chem leave puffy circles along with the stream of constant smoke that only grows into larger formations basically covering the majority of the sky in a thin grey cloud material. it's pathetic. military term is chaff radar counter measure. bill gates patents to manipulate the weather while partner with monsanto for drought resistant seeds, terminator seeds. while storing away precious natural earth dna up in the vaults of frozen norway.
so really and this is just one thing. forget the multitude of other things we are being blasted at from every angle. fukushima forgotten, 5 years later. still spewing. 95% corn and soy in america is gmo, and laced with pesticides... ect

only thing left to hope for is we do not allow jews to spread into space. we must ask kek for a space rock big enough and swift enough. and it must strike yellowstone

>>68421539
>what do you think about Baofeng UV5R

I don't think a newfag to radio would like or want a Baofeng - outside V/U the radio is deaf and sucks ass. Once you're a ham you can get one, don't bother otherwise - it's not going to be useful to you.

If you want a radio for the happening get a FRS type radio that's legal in your country or a CB.

Nah, don't have a HAM license. That's just a commonly-recommended model and it's was the best mix of price and features for me.

You'll want more radios than people because they'll get lost, broken, you'll pick up new people, lose old ones, etc. I used to do radio-coordinated stuff with a group of relatively smart friends, maybe no more than 6 at any one time. After 4 years, we had gone through almost 20 radios, and that was with me there to repair them.

And then there are the stories I could tell you about batteries...

you have to capture the picture while they are going before it turns to haze. tops 10 mins time frame best 1-2 mins after while plane is near end of run and you can see full effect. best when capturing also a multitude of planes in one shot. i had 2 going next to each other while spraying in between 3 other previous laid down lines which couldnt have been much longer before. id post pic but im lazy to take from phone to here. plus you internet sluths i dont want data i might miss. point is you can go online or you can go outside yourself on a blue sky day early and just fucking look. dumb fucks too busy looking at the phone

I was watching the waterfall display in the regions of HF that would propagate the best at the time (1.8-10 MHz or so at night) for activity outside the usual ham bands. The Russians / ukies / etc weren't sticking to a band plan.

Sadly I didn't speak Russia but I could tell by the sounds of the audio if they were in a tank or a plane, etc. I could hear some gunfire though, or so I think, pretty crazy stuff.

In case of emergency you'll want to talk to somebody else. the effective range is very small, in open space, some kilometers, in urban environment or forest some hundreds of meters.
You get 2 or 3, program them and in case you have to communicate with someone you give him one and decide a frequency usage, some code words to change to another channels, things like that.
I use them sometimes with a colleague at the shooting range to setup the targets or while hiking /skiing with the family : it's possible to split in two groups and rejoin easily, children can go faster and wait / inform the adults. I used to do this when I was a kid, but the walkie talkie was the size of a brick, and the weight too.
>>
>>68426288
Rather than just posting links to audio why don't you try to give us a synopsis?
>>
>>68426403
>the effective range is very small
Depending on where I am I might use 6m on my VX-8, to communicate in heavily treed areas. It seems to work better than V/U sometimes.

Good advice to the anon, becoming a ham is well worth it, much better than bumbling about trying to 'secretly' fuck with your radio and inevitably screwing with us licensed amateurs.

That doesn't come up for me :/ on the defcon forums though, you guys seen how much radiation has been leaking recently? Obviously it's been happening since Fukushima but I didn't realise it was happening to multiple sites.

It's doubtful because all interesting traffic will probably be encoded / encrypted / too routine to bother listening to.

That time the Russians were taking the Crimea I think was an anomaly because it was a very irregular action.

>How did you get into radios? and what was your first bought radio?

I saved up and bought a scanner when I was a 15 year old kid. I listed to that for a number of years, but sort of tailed off. It was some Radio Schack Pro-(??) scanner.

Then later I got an HF radio and started listening to shortwave broadcasts and stuff, and finally became a ham.

My radio I use now (mostly) is the Elecraft KX3, made right here in the USA.

Anyway I keep an eye on these threads and call out the bullshit. Fake audio is always poorly done and anything weird would be noted by priyom.org so making fake stuff that will stick is impossible with me in this thread.

Also you can set your bandwith at 2.7 KHz and cut the low 160 Hz or so, this might help make it less noisy.

Don't use your squelch - there is no point. Most HF monitoring receivers (stuff professional radio snoops use) and amateur HF radios omit the feature entirely. You WILL miss weak signals if you use it, it works by trying to estimate if there is a signal present or not by learning what level the background noise is at, but squelches are pretty dumb (even on this radio) and easily stumped.

If you have a real radio with RF gain control you can do a lot to combat the background noise, with careful use of the RF gain control, roofing filters, AF filters, amplifier(s), attenuators, and automatic / manual gain control. The WebSDR is ok but it lacks most features that a ham or other radiofag wants, it's like a consumer portable with a panadapter and a good audio filter.

If any of you anons wish to move to the next level I would recommend a nice mid-90s to mid-00s HF set such as one of the many made by Kenwood, Yaesu, or Icom. A ham set is also similarly useful but don't transmit until you get your ham license please.
>>
>>68430543
It's the middle of the night where you are so 8992 will come in better I am guessing.

At night radio's usually best below 30m, and during the day it's usually better above 30m.
>>
Some more activity, I can't tell if it's just background noise or not. There was a pretty clear, short transmission from gametime a second ago though.
>>
>>68431764
Yeah. 11175 seems to have less reverb (not sure what to call it) but the transmission is behind much more background noise.
>>

Their antenna's on the roof of a busy university building (and grounded to it) so spurious signals from inside the building could indeed show up on the radio. They might be getting into the receiver too, it can't have any kind of narrow filter since it sucks in the whole HF spectrum at once.

A ham radio typically only allows 3 KHz or so of signal into the "front end" of the radio itself, so it is much more immune to spurious signals and close-in / high power desense. The WebSDR is pulling 30 MHz of bandwidth.
>>
>>68432701

That could be the radio signal hitting you on both the short and long paths (all the way around the world) and causing an echo effect. Or ducting maybe.

The frequencies 8992 and 11175 are used by NATO to transmit EAMs or Emergency Action Messages. These are all in code and you can't make much sense of them but they're fun to listen to. Then there's Skyking EAMs where the operator says something like 'Skyking Skyking do not respond' before starting the message. I think Skyking EAMs are supposed to relate to a nuclear payload and the amount of times Skyking is repeated sort of corresponds to a defcon.
