It was called a RACE so America could get the first place when in reality they got pumped by USSR hard.
I've read somewhere that the Soviet Union never planned to send a man to the moon.No idea if that's true though.
People unironically believe that because the USSR launched a hunk of metal into space, they won the space race.

Some easy source is the documentary film "Houston we have a problem", which you can whatch the trailer of on youtube. Theres not any concete evidence that yugoslavia sold space rockets, but 2 moths before america went ot the moon, they made some kind of large deal with Tito. Its known that the Yugos had an undeground facility and an excellent team of scientists, so the theory is very possible
