download the myfitnesspal app on your smartphone

input your height, weight and activity level to calculate your caloric break even

choose at which rate you want to lose weight, 1 pound a week is the maximum the app allows since losing too much weight in a short period of time is actually unhealthy

now you just have to scan the barcode on the shit you eat and log into your daily diary respecting your caloric limit, it'll update the limit automatically as you enter your new weight

there's no way not to lose weight by doing this, you lose weight very fast at first and then slow down, but if at some point you stop losing weight you are commiting one of several possible mistakes:

1. you cook with too much butter/oil/lard or use too much condiments and don't add it to the diary

2. you are underestimating the size/weight of your portions, get a kitchen weighing scale

3. you are systemically underestimating the caloric value of foods that seem irrelevant (for instance cough drops) or that are difficult to find on the app (for example a meal you cook from scratch), prefer to overestimate instead

4. you overestimate how much you exercise or how active you are in general

5. you are allowing yourself "off-days" where you go berserk or you are regularly eating ~100 calories over the line: STOP IT

it doesn't even matter if your diet is not balanced (the app can help you balance it if you want though), as long as keep under the calories you'll lose weight

pro-tip: whenever you feel hungry drink 2-3 cups of water and brush your teeth, it's a great fucking habit to develop, kills three birds with one stone
