This is something most don't realize about the military. There are 'character' standards which, if you fail to meet them, can get you discharged dishonorably. Even amicable divorce has serious career implications.

It all boils down to if the highest ranking commander that cares likes you. So if your direct commander likes you and it is low visibility, you might be fine, but if his boss wants you out, you're out.
