Like I said, it's a great rifle. HK quality is pretty well deserved. But there's plenty of manufactures out there that produce just as reliable firearms for way less. The only thing more obvious than HK quality is HK price gouging.

The plastic is a necessity. Mobility is key.
As long as the important parts are the right material that is what matters. I remember my first AR purchase and I was alarmed/pleased with how light it was. I think my Ruger 10/22 is heavier, although I could be wrong.

The AR-18/AR-180. They did the short stroke piston way before HK or FN and coupled it with a durable and easy to make stamped receiver.
