If you live in an urban area filled with a high density of blacks or Mexicans, then yeah there's usually a metal detector. But no not all High Schools have them, the one I went to didn't have any, the ones in San Francisco didn't have any, but go to LA or Sac then yeah almost every school has one.

There has never been a school shooting, and violent crimes are few and far-between.

Everyday when we came in we had to give the security officers our bags to look in, and walk through a metal detector. Also we needed IDs on or they wouldn't let us in the school. There were 2 or so police officers there everyday. They carried fake guns and we're nice to all the white kids since we never did anything so they didn't worry me.
Shitty experience all in all but it toughened me up and redpilled me on blacks. I probably would be a liberal right now if I went to a nicer high school.

It depends on the area, when I was in San Diego and Los Angeles, some schools had metal detectors. I went to one of the worst LA high schools for 1 year, we had detectors and wavedowns and even barb wiring on some of the fencing (to prevent gangs coming IN to attack students related to gang members).
In more rural areas I've been through like Northern California, Arizona, Montana, Iowa, it was pretty much unheard of.
Security cameras were nearly standard since columbine, I remember the irritation at them being installed when I was a freshman in 98. It made even good students feel like criminals.

I grew up outside Reading PA, in a town called Mt. Penn. Reading, PA itself is a very scary place. The high school there had metal detectors. But our school in Mt. Penn did not.
But Reading isn't a big city. Its not even close to Philadelphia or Pittsburgh size, certainly not Detroit or NYC size.
But all schools in America these days have police officers/security officers. In the bad schools, the officers patrol the halls, in the better ones, they stay in the office. But nowadays all schools have cops.

The lock on the front door only really exist for non student coming in. Any student just has talk to the secretary and she'll push a button and you just walk through.
