Boomers- Helped ruin the economy

Millennials- Assume they should have even easier life than the boomers.

NATO Euros have like no military, because they rely on us to supply the bulk of it. That money can go into shit like free healthcare and college.

>>
>>68176804
Contrary to popular beliefs, you don't HAVE to go to college.
>>
>>68177828
Because it's not impossible, like so many here would have you believe.

Subsidized education, healthcare, childcare and housing are all completely possible with our current system but the ultra wealthy would only be wealthy.

Think of it this way - the averaged income per person in the US is about 100,000 dollars a year. If you redistributed that wealth down to the people who make 20-50,000 a year so that they can afford to raise a family and their kids can get an education, the economy would be better off because there are more employable people and more wealth is in circulation rather than accumulating interest in a bank account. There are some people who are more successful than others, but that doesn't mean those less successful should be penalized for it. Conversely, the wealthy can still lead happy lives if their earnings are taxed at a higher rate so that they make 70-80% of the money required to live an extravagant lifestyle.

tl;dr redistribution of wealth is good for the economy, trickle-down economics is a ruse created by the wealthy to siphon off even more wealth
>>
>>68178505
Millennials were basically brainwashed into thinking that the only way to suceed in life was to go to college. It was basically expected that if you were an average or above average student that you would attend some sort of post secondary education. It's hard to make rational decisions when you're only 17 and have been brainwashed since birth that you need post secondary education.

We wouldn't be having these problems with student loan debts and youth unemployment if the boomer generation was actually willing to TRAIN generation Y right out of high-school.

But no, the boomer generation really does have this idea that "its someone else's job to train my employees, the schools need to do it for me!"

Training an employee straight out of high school used to be seen as normal in the boomer generation, it is generally seen as abnormal for my generation.

A lot of doors in America are "locked" unless you have a college degree. These doors are locked and cannot be opened unless you have a degree.

If you want to teach English in a foreign country, you need a BA or BS degree- this door is locked and no amount of experience can open this door unless you have a degree.

Many government and state jobs are like this too. It doesn't matter who you know, what your personality is, how motivated you are, or your experience. The door is locked unless you have a degree.

I personally see this as classism. You will encounter a lot of classism if you don't have a degree. A lot of people will look down on you.

I do believe one needs post-secondary education but this knowledge can be acquired across many different channels and especially if someone has the aptitude and gumption. They don't want jobs, they expect them.

No nurses or doctors are bitching about needing work.
Welders and carpenters generally aren't bitching about needing jobs.
Those groups trained for real actual jobs.

I don't know what kind of jobs millenials expect, they don't appear to get on a path to a career.
They just kind of like dicking around as overgrown children with no direction.

I personally am planning on studying Music in College then immediately joining The Royal Navy after I graduate.

I want to develop my passion as much as possible, while also being able to do my dream practical job. Studying Music for a good few years should also make it more likely that I could start a successful music career after I'm done with my Naval service.

It's not a perfect plan, but it's the best I can see for my life right now.

This is a major problem for millenials.

Another problem is that there are just fewer and fewer jobs in general. A computer controlled robot can do what 100 factory workers did in 1950. A fleet low maintenance machines are coming to replace most unskilled and even some skilled labor.

There are simply fewer jobs available than people who need them.

If people are not compensated in some other way to keep the economy going, it will all grind to a halt and a revolution will occur.

We really need to divide the term "millennial." There's a huge fucking difference in mentality of people born in 85-90 than there are people born in 95+.

I was born in 88, and while I fell for the college bullshit that was crammed down my throat, I sucked it up, improved myself, and fought off my debt. I have several peers who did the same. We were all extremely vocal to people younger than us that college could very well be a debt-laden end. And of the two kids I tried to influence who were both born in 96 (friends of my little sister-in-law), one is getting a fucking art degree and the other is in radio or journalism.

GOD DAMMIT, WE FUCKING WARNED YOU. And now people my age have generally come to terms with our debt, paying for it, and making the most of our mistakes, while younger "millennials" cheer on Bernie Freeshit Jewders.

We need separate labels. Tired of being lumped in with those retards.

This is the problem right here, people literally just want things handed to them. Millennials have been programmed to have things just given to them.

Im in Uni right now to get an education degree and then later I'll go back to school for a business degree to work in administration so I can rake in 150k a little later in life. Seriously the only issue millennials have is just pure laziness and lack of scope.

Build a plan, be willing to put in work, end up happy in the long run rather than instant gratification.

>Bad news: The number of job openings could be a reflection of companies not finding the right candidates. Many Americans don't have the skills that those available jobs require. It's called the job skills gap, and it has become a serious problem in the U.S.

American companies keep saying "there's a labor shortage! There's a skills gap! We can't find enough skilled applicants!"

Well if there's a skills gap, then why don't you do what every other generation in humanity's history has done? TRAIN people to get those skills?

all these generations felt they had rights not previously offered to them and they fought to change the status quo. calling millennials entitled generation is generalizing and foolish

A little mix of both.
Boomers fucked up our economy and made education and healthcare so buttfuckingly expensive. Most have a tendency to remember what it was like when they went through college.
My dad had people coming to him and offering him jobs when he was graduating and couldn't fathom why I didn't have that happening my senior year.

Conversely, Millennials are entitled faggots who were coddled and had everything handed to them on a silver platter. Real world hits them like a torn of bricks.

Job prospects suck. Boomers simply don't want to train anybody. They only want to hire somebody with X years experience for a entry level job.

We can't find jobs without a college degree these days. Everything requires one today, I saw a job posting for data entry that wanted a degree plus 3 years experience. I don't know what employers think is so hard about typing numbers into excel, but it obviously requires years of experience and degree.

They REFUSE, absolutely refuse to train today's youth on even the most simple of task. Everyone is expected to go out and go into debt to get a degree then spend years working for free to gain experience.

Jobs that you might (even for low paying jobs there is very little possibility) pay next to nothing and are complete dead ends.

Education costs the same regardless of degree. And there are equally shitty job prospects all around, even for god's chosen people the STEM majors (I am one). Salaries now are just not worth the expense of the degree.

Millennial here. The issue is that a lot of them love to have fun, but cut corners when it comes to work. They expect college to be a breezy way into a comfy, cozy life in the suburbs. Meanwhile less and less people are getting jobs after college.

Whenever the other kids my age ask me what I'm doing after high school, I tell them I'm going to trade school, learning a vocation, etc.

And EVERY ONE of them scratched their heads and asked what the heck a trade school was.

Same here, white middle class, parents pretty much had nothing so I had to do it myself, but I took a bit different route. I started working in high school and saved up, and I worked all through college. I didn't take a single loan.

And you KNOW how many people you went to college with who just goofed the fuck off and partied all weekend. There is so much down time in college, there's no excuse not to study hard and/or work some part-time. But everyone else just had to party and fuck around. I have no sympathy for them.

And I did my first two years at community college. You can save THOUSANDS of dollars with this one weird trick.

They could have done it exactly like me, working jobs every summer earning money and weekends and doing 2 years at CC. They could have done it like you, buckling down and studying and earning scholarships. Nope, they signed their fully willing and adult legal signature to borrow a fuckton of money from financial institutions, gambling that they'd get a good enough job to be able to pay it back.

I have not one iota of sympathy.

their parents.
There is literally nothing wrong with their brain or their genetical heritage. The only thing that ruins a person is it's socialization and its social/cultural environment.
You just can't hate a person for what it is. The "not their fault" is not a meme. Yes it'snigger's fault if he robs a store. But it's not exactly his fault (for the reasons you kow but chose to ignore). Same goes for millenials.

I am 19 years old. I am your meme. The millennialest of millenials. Only because of my age? But I was born in a good family. My father is cultured and listened to Miles Davis, read french authors, Hemingway. My brother made me play Heroes of Might and Magic, Sly Racoon, Age of Empire, Rome Total War and Baldur's Gate. This statement right here is always the statement that proves communist faggots like yourself have no idea how economics and currency works. You know all that money people including the rich put into banks does?

Well it's a little thing called the multiplier effect. This is what creates NEW money. Do you know what taxes and government fees do? It DESTROYS money. Without the banks taking money and using it to create loans that build interest, you would lose the creation of currency while the government continues to destroy it.

Good god. Its not all of us, but there sure is many.

I have had plenty of friends who went to college without a clue what they wanted to do in their life. They also did 1 or 2 years on academic probation because they can't even pass freshman level classes. The degrees they were chasing were essentially non-revenue degrees. I lived in the "art dorm" (only like 4 engineers out of 500 people) and I was surrounded by people who could not accept that their standard of living could plummet as soon as they graduated, if they did.

I stuck with an engineering group of friends that have their eyes on the prize. Each one is talking about investments and financial independence. To be fair I have moved back home with my parents (because they make $200k a year and have a nice house) for the last year and a half to repay my masters level college debt to them. The first thing I did was pay back ALL my loans to them. If my parents weren't nice enough to let me live in their house I would still be putting money on rent and loan repayment only. But I have now acquired enough money to put down 20% on a house big enough for a family, and I probably will soon. The girls I date are only those that can maintain financial independence as well. I don't have very high standards, but walking into a marriage expecting to not be responsible for expenses is a no-go.

There are two groups of millennials.
1. Those that understand they need to be financially independent and smart because they know they CANNOT make as much money as their parents did, and that perpetual debt is suicide in other words don't pretend your job will last forever.
2. Those that walk out of college and hope that here is some sort of safety net that catches them. These are the ones that begin to think they they might have to start looking for a job AFTER they graduate college. These are the ones that start sending money to credit cards because of "muh youth".

The millennial generation ended in 1993. The next generation is generation z. College is a business in the US plain and simple. The real problem isn't laziness or lack of scope, it's just a shitty system. You may have tried to warn younger people but you are not qualified to do so, even if you are right. Guidance counselor sin high school are supposed to tell you how college works but they don't. And the more accessible college is, it only furthers the requirements for advancement in life. I.e an associates degree is a joke, even though it is college education, now everyone wants a bachelors degree. You say you fell for it, and are now paying for you mistakes. Fool me once, and so on. You shouldn't be able to fall for anything that will completely and irrevocably change your career/ life path. That's a fucking con.

Fucking sanders supports go to school to get the "college experience" which is just code for drinking, drugs, and sex. Anyone with half a brain should be able to get through school without help for very minor loans.

Sanders supporters realize that the relative value of a college degree is outrageous compared to the cost, and that this trend is largely a result of cutting federal and state funding to Universities. Furthermore, the "college experience" for the kind of people Sanders is trying to enable isn't the hedonistic bullshit you're imagining. Tons and tons of students work shit jobs for 25-30 hours a week on top of 3-5 classes, and still end up in insane debt.

I also have a college degree (and most of a masters) without debt. But I empathize with people who, even if perhaps they made a poor financial decision when they were 18, find themselves with a burdensome loan that stops them from participating fully in the economy. It doesn't help anyone. That you can't see past your own anecdotal success because you spitefully want to ensure people suffer the consequences, however outrageous, of a rigged system. Saddling people with debt is bad for the United States. Pathetic

Sounds like you fucked up by not working an internship in college and making connections.

You know that's the thing about you millennials. You fail to realize that experience isn't really what is going to get you hired. Connections will. If you worked that internship in college for FREE (wahh slave labor hnnng... suck up pussy it's a short term sacrifice for a bigger payoff, you are being paid in EXPERIENCE) you could have that job. All you have to do is show a good work ethic and be friendly with your boss. Then when you are out of college you go back to the same place, apply and tell the boss "Hey I know the job from my internship blah blah you know I have a good work ethic blah blah blah hire me." Typically they will hire you and give you a chance.

But no... millennials are just fucking too stupid to do that.

Even if you're somehow morally adrift enough to set aside the philosophical implications of favoring a massive, impoverished underclass that works full time but teeters on the edge of insolvency, it isn't practical. The capitalist economy of the first world relies on a sustainable middle class and working class with the purchasing power to participate in the economy. If we allow a tiny minority of people to accumulate the tremendous majority of wealth, and let it either sit unproductively in bank accounts or invested outside the United States, depriving the American people and government any returns on the investments we enabled, the economy begins to stagnate. 2008 was a direct result of this behavior.

Nihilistic capitalism will be the death of the western world, and for a board full of supposed "nationalists" /pol/ sure doesn't seem to give a shit about their actual fellow citizens.

>What costs one trimester in my program now is what it cost for 4 years 30 years ago.

Yea unless you adjust for inflation, it is only slightly more expensive today. Do you honestly think it was ever cheap to go to school to become a doctor? No it wasn't.

But again... Baby Boomers were the ones who failed to teach them.

I did anon, luckily it's in the medical field, so I can pay my shit, Nursing pays well, though while you get used to it, kind of annoying one fuck up and your job is gone forever. (this being malpractice)

Though my other friend got caught in that loops were you pay for a year, can't get a loan, need to drop out, and since he couldn't goto school he had to pay the loan etc.
Now he's just in the workforce, his loan is almost gone, but he's lost all drive to really go back.

>No, the types of people who join frats, party all day, and take joke majors are exactly the Sanders supporters.

Ah, the STEM master race meme, where everything that isn't a hard science is a "joke major" because society is an uncomplicated place and history, literature, and art have neither abstract nor material value. What a sophisticated worldview.

>People who actually take study real majors like STEM recognize the value of a degree and aren't afraid of loans because they can pay it off two years after graduating.

Many cannot, and as more and more people take this route, it is going to become increasingly difficult for, say, CS graduates to find work in their field. This is already happening. A diverse economy is not sustainable if every single person is forced to choose between STEM work or the service industry, and inflicting that on a country and its people because of some stupid axiomatic belief in the fairness of capitalism is incredibly shortsighted.

Why did they choose to take on those loans? Why didn't they choose an education they could afford?

The government runs student loans now and is very predatory about it. It convinces young stupid kids that the loans are great deals and will be simple to pay off after they get a good paying job from their college degree. They also do a whole lot of "just follow your dreams" bullshit.

its not that they dont understand it, they just think their too good actually working with their hands. A thing that used to be more respected.

Suck it up faggots. Im 20 years old, lower-middle class, and i didnt wanna pay college loans so i sacked up and put my head down and joined the military. Not only am i getting a crazy amount of experience, im getting a free degree.

But its hard work so i wouldnt expect most millennials to get this.
>>
Default on the loans and go underground and get paid under the table. There you go: free college, free spending money in loan money, and a big fuck you to this corrupt system. Money can't be garnished that doesn't officially exist, and you will have the added bonus of not giving the IRS wealth to be transferred to dindu's for their welfare gibsmedats.

millennials ARE stupid, but the white ones arent stupider than boomers. millenials are stupider because there are more niggers and mexicans.

millennial whites are actually smarter and more conservative than boomers. you think it's bad today? talk to someone honestly about the 70s and youll realize how wrong you are.

"normies" can only learn responsibility through decades of being FORCED into work, etc. the boomers were not only forced to do so, but made 3x as much on average as millennials.

you CANNOT destroy civilization and then blame the youth for the fact nothing works.

individuals are NOT strong enough to influence society as a whole. the fuck is wrong with you.

you don't tell a good russian in russia to just "tough it out" because it's fuckng IMPOSSIBLE there. for some reason we recognize that communism destroyed russia and made it impossible for hard working people to make neds meet, but we blame our own people. dumb.

>>68192029
arts and humanities don' create a more diverse economy. they'r the result of an already diverse economy. our economy was shot, therefore social studies is unviable now. forcing 105 iq retards to memorize history isn't going to make anything better. in fact, it'd be better if anyone under 120 iq just shut the fuck up about anything that isn't reality television.

stopped right there. work isnt supposed to be fun, if it is thats only a bonus.

and those old ass people wouldnt still be doing the work if there were enough young people taking their jobs and allowing them to move up.

Theres a huge demand for young blue color work but everyone is to good to do it.

A house in 1970 cost 1/3 of one today. The cost of college has risen almost 1000% and the amount of jobs available after high school without a degree dropped from 70% to 40%. In 1970 you only had to work 14 hours a week to pay for college, now that average is 35. In other words, go fuck yourself.

Engineering Degree is high tier degree man, as long as you actually learned, and know what you're doing, it's a guaranteed good job.

>>68187194
I went to college, and while I don't regret the experience I had, the connections I made, lessons learned, and people met, If I could go back, I'd of just taken the cheaper local RN degree near my home, then hop into an accelerated BSN, which in the end would have left me with maybe 15,000 in the whole, instead of 60,000.

I'll be fine , and it's about half way paid off, but I'm going to be a lot better with my kids, boomers forced "college is good" for years, and I make the same shit mistake my folks did.
Community at least, then see if college is for you.
Friend went to Community, dropped after 1st semester finished and now he's doing trade jobs and building sets for TV shows in the off season and make a great dollar.

Good thing someone did the calculations adjusting for inflation!
http://www.forbes.com/sites/steveodland/2012/03/24/college-costs-are-soaring/#6c2372b7641b

“…if the cost of college tuition was $10,000 in 1986, it would now cost the same student over $21,500 if education had increased as much as the average inflation rate but instead education is $59,800 or over 2 ½ times the inflation rate.”

no ones denying the boomers fucked it up for us. but sitting around and bitching about it and expecting things to be handed to you is the opposite of what needs to happen. Were gonna have to work, and at the same time put in a government set on bringing jobs and prosperity back.

I'm not gonna read the entire thread just for your supposed counterargument.

fact of the matter is that job creation is dead in a ditch. mean and median income have both fallen, hours worked and labor force participation are ALL down. if you have evidence that blue collar specifically is different, have that source handy. because we barely caught up to the jobs lost in 08, AFTER 7 years of pop growth and immigration amounting to an extra 30 million people.

30 million deficit, oh, AND that's with a job creation rate averaging 1.2 million a year. so it'll take us more than thirty years to match the gap during the recession if the population STOPS growing.

wow. I'm impressed.

Clean, safe home repair =/= blue collar work generally. Working as a steamfitter on an ancient boiler full of asbestos or in a chemical plant, steel mill, or industrial welding is more like it with tons of toxic occupational exposure and bodily injury.

Sorry, but no hot chicks in denim with toolbelts with you in a cushy suburb like some cable tv diy show...

>Nihilistic capitalism will be the death of the western world, and for a board full of supposed "nationalists" /pol/ sure doesn't seem to give a shit about their actual fellow citizens.

That's because a good portion of /pol/ is a bunch of rich boi edge lords that are in love with idea of nationalism. But when it comes down to it they are only for themselves. Given the opportunity, I bet most of them would hire an illegal for pennies on the dollar to save a little instead of paying a fellow U.S. citizen. Or buy some Chinese made garbage over American goods to save a little.

It's been my observation that people who are quick to call lower classes losers or lazy, tend to be the very people who have had everything handed to them on a silver platter and know nothing of real hardship.

The distinct lack of empathy is a dead giveaway.
