Make sure to be done before winter.
Trust me on this one.

The FSB is going to record everything you do in case you're ever worth blackmailing.

Also, if your parents are worth blackmailing they will arrest you on trumped up charges.

You'll be fine. Moscow and St. Petersburg are pretty modern but they do have some places you should avoid of course.
>>
>>68165708
>smile all you want

In Russia, smiling at a stranger means you're mocking them. When Mcdonald's opened up their first restaurants there they made their employees smile at the customers per American company policy. They would sometimes hop the counters and fight the cashiers over it.
>>
To you Russians would you be impressed and less skeptical of an American that can speak a little Russian?
>>
>>68168076
yes it is. i live across one school which is abusing dotation from eu and is bringing "foreing" students from africa. czech women studying there are all over them all the time. disgusting. Czech women not even once. slovakian are good.

Coincidentally, I will be in moscow for a 5 hour layover next week.

Kremlin and Red Square obviously

Then depends on what you like… Could visit MGU building, it's one of the tallest ones in Moscow

Plenty historical museums/cathedrals, many located near the Kremlin

How is St Basil's? I'd like to see that if I ever go to Russia.

Do they have tours of the palaces?
>>
>>68173913
Well shit, I'm from Moscow so I don't know that much about the city but I'll try

Hermitage is one of the most popular tourist destinations—basically it's one huge ass museum, and by huge I mean you could walk all day there

Otherwise google "дocтoпpимeчaтeльнocти пeтepбypгa", the results are in a handy panel in English

I'd say the popular destinations are theaters but obviously the plays are in Russian, unless ballet is your thing

If you like Cathedrals there plenty there too

Russian Museum is ok too
>>
Is it really illegal to smile in russia like the finfag says?
>>

They'll just think you're the dumb American you are.
>>
>>68174564
:D
>>
>>68161126
Don't buy anything from street vendors.

They're going to rip you off.

If you insist on buying some bullshit. Try to pass yourself off as literally any other country. Also standard haggle practices like walking away to force them to cave.
>>
>>68173997
Ummm I'm not sure where the souvenirs are made. But one thing for sure—you can get a Matroshka doll of pretty much anyone. And by anyone I mean they have shelves upon shelves of football players, Merkel, Hollande, whatever.

Then there traditional Russian crafts— Khokhloma, Gzhel, Dymkovo toys, etc. I doubt they're made in China, my grandma worked at gzhel factory.
>>
>>68169355
Where did you get this picture of me?
>>
>>68174775

Nice, if you can think of anything comfy or interesting that tourists wouldn't think of, please share Senpai.
>>
>>68174238
Actually pretty cool. I remember it being quite gorgeous inside. Russian cathedrals had very lavish decorations. You can feel tetris in the air.

I saw groups of foreign tourists with guides, but I'm not sure if you can order a tour on the spot. Probably would need to plan ahead.
>>
>>68175068
>You can feel tetris in the air.
Can you translate this to English for me?
>>
>>68161126
take your confidence level down to Canadian
>>
>>68174480
Depends. There are Russians who will make Putin look approachable. And there are ones whihc are hardly very different from Czechs/other Europeans.

But no one really smiles as much as French/Canadian do, that I can tell you for sure.
>>
>>68175068
What do you think it would it be like for an American living in Moscow?
>>
>>68175154
You don't know what Tetris is, moron?
>>
>>68174757
Well it's an OK advice, but the prices in Russia aren't that terribly high anyway. The dollar is expensive now, I doubt you'll be shocked by prices. I've seen them recently—they do hike prices but more or less reasonably, the center of Moscow is a very expensive place in general
>>
>>68175517
I know what Tetris is, but I don't know how you "feel it in the air" unless the cathedral is falling apart in 4 block pieces.
>>
>>68174640
CS is like a religion in Russia. It has been the most popular game in the country since the '90s. CS GO is just the new wave

Most Americans I've met were surprised by the level of life and that the country is much more similar to the states.

Few things I've heard Americans say:

—Wow, high-risers everywhere!

—How the fuck do you live without guns?

—McDonalds is actually pretty tasty here

—Russian sweets are shit

But most are shocked that the country is way closer to what they have in US
>>
>>68161126
Here is an advice for you: by all means keep away from markets and train stations. Those are the gathering places of shitskins and all other sorts of scum.
>>
>>68176088
Come on dude, the whole reason I'm going on vacation is to get away from shitskins. They're even in St Petersburg? FUCK

>>68176054
From the pictures I've seen, the city looks much cleaner than a major American city.
>>
>>68174972
Ummm hard to say since I'm not the touristy kind but

VDNH is a cool place. Has this statue which appeared in the intros to 99% of most famous Soviet movies. Nearby is Ostankino tower, huge TV transmitter. AFAIK you can't go there but anyways it's a nice place.

VDNH itself is an expo/park with nice buildings and lots of fountains/whatever.

Comrade speaks the truth. You won't see them on the streets that much, but markets are mostly shitskin territories. Although you'll hardly find yourself walking into one. Same with train stations—what are you gonna take the train to, honestly. Unless getting a train to the nearest forest to get drunk is your type of thing
>>
>>68176054
>were surprised by the level of life and that the country is much more similar to the states

GDP per capita
US: 55,904 USD
Rashka: 8,447 USD

What quality of life are you talking about here?
>>
>>68176491
Well I love kozinaki too. I'm just telling what I've heard people say.

Russian chocolates aren't very great though, they are usually just budget stuff, and aren't any special really.

You can also try chak-chak and khalva, they are also popular here, although technically they aren't Russian.
>>
>>68176696
Is it dangerous for women to be alone on trains? And why don't women carry protection like pepper spray?
>>
>>68176491
Those are sesemi seeds right? I've seem them selling similar products around here and in Asian shops.
>>
>>68165157

>>
>>68176967
I wasn't a fan of the halva. Too sweet for me, and it crumbles everywhere. I'll keep an eye open for the chak-chak, maybe i'll swing by brighton for some.

Thanks for the tip.

>>

>>
>>68177232

Russian chicks are fine as fuck. So i would suggest trying to pick one up. People are really nice the younger Russians speak English so dont worry about not getting around. You will probably see a few fights that's what russians do so dont go out finding trouble youll be fine
>>
>>68177033
Not really. There's some amount of police on trains usually, and it takes just a press of a button to call them. At least on the subway or on trains in Moscow everything's quiet. I hear about rape extremely rarely, it's completely uncommon in Moscow at least I'd say.

Now you can buy a pepper spray if you're returning home to a bad neighborhood at midnight. But otherwise, I've barely seen anyone feared of getting raped in 5+ years.
>>
>>68177362
Most goods are imported into the country and are priced in their corresponding dollar value. Some things are actually much more expensive due to the retarded import policies.
>>
>>68161126

Don't wander far from the tourist areas.
>>
>>68161614
Honestly it is best to assume that every nation's intelligence services are doing that.
>>
>>68177362
That's true to an extent. Of course rent is lower, we don't have to pay health insurance, we don't have college debt, ridiculous cable, phone, internet bills, public transport is cheaper, plane tickets cost a fraction of what they cost in US, and so on. But if, say, a car costs 20 grand in US, it will cost the same 20 grand in Russia. Same with everything Russia doesn't produce.

Plus the food and necessities are often the same price as in US. And in the cities, you don't have a house in the suburbs—you rent/own a flat and usually a dacha. Cheapest flats on the outskirts of Moscow start from $100K, those are the shittiest ones with a single living room and the worst locations.
>>
>>68179093
Do you know Alena Akmadulina the fashion company? Is it popular or famous in Russia? I have a friend that works there
>>
>>68179618
Let's put it this way: she's not on the google's suggested searches when I type "aлeнa".

I've heard about her… Once or twice. In the context of fashion news. 7 or so years ago.

Russian fashion industry generally doesn't interest anyone at all in the country. The few hipsters who love fashion will rather wear anything foreign.

Still she sounds like an OK designer, not gaudy/trashy like some of them.
>>
>>68176491
You can get this shit anywhere.. Literally any small city in the USA.. Go to an import mini mart sort of place. People eat this shit in literally half the world and its called lots of different things. Here, it's pasteli. so if you find a Greek import store or a Caputos or Mexican mart or some shit, ask for that maybe.

Jesus

It's literally sesame seeds and honey and /or sugar
>>
