You do realize that just because nukes were invented war didn't automatically stop existing, right?
The only thing it has stopped is the full occupation of a country that has nukes. NATO would not, for example, nuke Russia if Russia decided to eat all of Scandinavia. But if Russia decided to eat all of France, France could potentially say fuck you and nuke Russia, while NATO still wouldn't.
