I see pretty consistent saltiness about single motherhood on this board and I just don't get it.
I grew up with divorced parents (alternating weeks with each) from the age of 3 to 12 until my bipolar dad offed himself in the garage when he forgot to take his meds for a few weeks.
So for as long as I can remember it has been just me, my little brother, and our mom. I'm 24 now and can't think of a single bad thing to say about her or the way she raised me.
>Never re-married. A couple of boyfriends over the years who were around for a few months at a time, I only have good memories of any of them.
>Insurance company executive. Worked a lot and took frequent business trips throughout my highschool years. Left me in charge of my little brother for sometimes even weeks.

>Funny, extremely smart. Hard-working and responsible yet incredibly generous with her money and time.
Is my mom basically just a great dad? I've never understood the single mom hatred, but is that just because I got lucky and have an amazing mom? If single motherhood really is detrimental to society, I'd like to know about it, so convince me. I'd love some statistics and scientific evidence but I'll take your anecdotes about your shitty moms too.

This pretty much matches my personal experience. My mom tried her best and I love her, but she's not a father and I grew up without out any positive male role models. It's caused me a lot of grief in social circles throughout my life.

See, developmental psychology is a heavily studied field, and pretty well understood in this regard. People learn to be adults by observing adults in their lives as children. Men learn how to attract and treat women by watching how their fathers act. They also learn how women should behave by seeing their mothers as a baseline. You got neither of those, so not only do you not understand how to be you, but you also don't know what a properly functioning woman is like. You would be shocked and confused if you ever met one.
Meanwhile, single mothers of boys replace their normal, healthy male-female relationships with a distorted one involving their sons. They sort of prop the son up as a caricature of what they wish a man were like. They might, for instance, teach their boys that they're good people if they're respectful to women to a fault, and are self sacrificing when it comes to women. That might make the mother feel good, but it dooms the son to a lifetime of beta m'ladying because actual women prefer men that are assholes. Then we have men who don't understand why they can never get a girlfriend, and women who lash out at the evil patriarchy in society not living up to their cartoonish expectations of radical egalitarianism.
And that's just for starters.
