University of Arizona and Arizona State University are similar schools, from a worth of degree standpoint. ASU is trending up, UA is trending down. Western NC is pretty awesome, as long as you stay out of Buncombe county- specifically Asheville. That place is liberal HQ.
It makes for a perfect rural life, and every morning the sunrise over the mountains is breathtaking, not to mention the flowers in spring or the leaves in fall.
The climate is unpredictable because the mountains break up weather, but it tends to be pretty moderate.
Also, the mountains provide safety. No tornadoes, rarely any flooding, and its obviously not a potential military target.
There is little to no black population either, since there weren't any plantations.

You can live in any number of suburbs across the country with absolutely no issues. Be vocally conservative in the ultra-liberal suburbs of Seattle or you can enjoy the modern, forward thinking conservative communities in Orange County. You will be welcomed with open arms everywhere.
Or you can go rural. It'll be isolated, and distances in rural America are probably 10:1 ratio of what you are used to, but it's all beautiful and as a German you will find a lot of sympathy. From Pennsylvania to Wisconsin to Idaho there are literally thousands of small towns that began as communities settled by German immigrants hundreds of years ago, these people will probably support you for your first couple years in the country if they like you enough.

NAU is a good school, depending on the program you're in. If it's something like kinesiology, they're hard to beat. However, you will be bored as shit up there. It's in a town called Flagstaff and Flagstaff thinks that they're Portland. Lots of hipsters. The locals themselves are pretty redpilled, but all the college students are far, FAR left.
