How strong is the Russian military really? America likes to call them junk but they seem to be doing pretty well.

>inb4 muh memecarriers

>>68138638
They have a great stockpile of weapons and munitions. One weakness is their military tech is somewhat outdated. Night Vision, IR designators, etc.
>>
while i would like to agree with you anon, i must point out that military tech is classified everywhere. the same old replayed clips of military shit you see on fox or cnn does not contain anything a civilian without clearance gets to see.

some cool, awesome, awe inspiring and a tad bit scary shit out there. i would not discount for one second the abilities of the russian military.

idk as an example, civvies didnt even start hearing about the bullet location detection technology mounted onto humvees/tracs until a year/couple years ago at most. someone shoots at you, instantly detects direction, source of the shot, velocity, its like having a cheater mini map in cs go, kek.

now try to imagine what is used on a regular basis that you don't get to hear about.

The units they project outward for the world to see are fairly well equipped to maintain a certain image. The United States does the same thing.

Units that deploy usually get brand new top of the line shit while the ones that don't get hand me downs and make due with broken equipment.
>>
>>68138638
Second strongest in the world, behind USA. In short.
You can't really compare them though because Russian interests are near them, which means they don't need a blue-water navy based around carriers like Americans need.
Also, they are in great strategic position because their interests are near them while their only credible opponent is an ocean away.
Don't listen to these ''experts'', Crimea and Syria have shown that they are highly capable.
>>68140482
That's normal in every military.
>>
>>68138638
Discounting nukes, Russia still comes in as military no.2 in the world. Power projection being a major factor, something China doesn't have yet.

>>
>>68138638

they literally had to buy used ships from Turkey just to supply their troops in Syria
>>
>>68141109
>power projection
...is a dumb term. Power projection is absolutely necessary for USA because they're remote from their geopolitical goals.
Russians don't need power projection of that sort. Their outlook isn't global.

It encompasses the shipping of troops to certain part of the world and maintaining supply logistics behind it. It doesn't just mean carefree joy riding aircraft carriers across the seas as US does it often.

USA could successfully ship/fly and supply their troops anywhere on the planet.

Russia can do that for Eurasia and upper part of Africa. South America, Australia, Sub-Saharan Africa...not so much.

That is what is hiding under the term of 'power projection'.
>>
>>68142158
You're right but that's my point. Russia has no need for power projection of that sort.
>>
They have more tanks than anyone in the world.
China has the most infantry if I'm not mistaken.

Seeing that most of the best military tech has already been pioneered by the US, It's a lot less expensive to implement. Not only that develop better tech using whatever advance military tech they get their hands on as a base.
As of right now, they have the best scout helicopter in the world. More importantly the
government contracts very impressive projects
unlike the US where it's based off whether
the contractors are friendly with officials
in terms of outright bribery.

How much does morale matter?
I dont expect the russian army would be able to hold up that long, in many ways the conscripts there seem to fucking hate it and I would expect alot of deserters, their suicide statistics in the army is pretty high.
This can quickly be changed though, if they are as strict as they were in WWII on desertion, but this will probaly cost a lot of human lives. Russia has currently a negative birthrate and 1 million people with Hiv/Aids and its rapidly increasing.
But this depends on how this war will be fought. Russia is however moving away from a conscript-based army and over to a specialist army, which will be interesting to see what will bring.

I am mostly curios to see what Putin has learned from warfare in both Ukraine and Syria by now. I bet he is also watching over the Eu-Turkey refugee deal, knowing that sending refugees over to Turkey will only make his geopolitical rival stronger when confronting the Eu.

From what I've seen from the Ukie conflict, and how the ruskies deal with terrorism on the home front in recent years, I'd say they're not as "disciplined" as other armies.

The US is far superior to Russia in every warfare area. The US would have issues in an all out invasion of Russia, because everyone in history has, but it would never come to that. US ships would decimate their navy and shipping and starve them into surrender.

Most of those things you listed concern separatists and not ruskies. Ruskies regular troops were fighting in mass numbers only in august of 2014. They outmaneuvered, surrounded and decimated our troops very fast. The only question is how many prepared like that troops they have. If all of their infantry/mechinfantry/artillery are prepared like that than probably their land forces are n.2(maybe n.3 after china). But i have some doubts about that.

Flanker is a fighter, Tu-22M-3M is a bomber used in that role, but there's like 60 of them. Each can carry 2 AS-4 missiles (with reduced range of course, normal is 1) which are the only reliable weapon today, as they were in 70's for that matter. This new version is scary. But that's too little, Soviets used to have regiments of these planes.

To explain you how it works: US carriers never go alone, and they're never at sea without 2 or 4 AEW planes searching the skies, plus a few fighters armed with AAM's just in case.
One carrier has some 40 fighters, these are F/A-18's which are inferior to previous F-14's but still okay.
So dozens of these missiles will be shot by F/A-18's, rest fall on SAM defenses of CBG.
Russians simply lack the means to saturate their defense. Submarines are the best bet.

Russia's military fell apart with the collapse of the Soviet Union and performed extremely poorly during the First Chechen War in 1995. The Chechens slaughtered Russian armored columns moving into their capital during the opening battles of the war. The Russians suffered staggering casualties (by post-WW2 standards, anyway) as their military broke down from years of neglect and poor doctrine/training.

By 1999 the Russians had licked their wounds and recovered somewhat from their post-Soviet lows. A series of apartment bombings triggered the next war in Chechnya while also bringing a formerly obscure prime minister from St. Petersburg into power.

They performed significantly better than they had the first time around, but they still had to end up setting up the son of a former anti-Russian guerilla named Ramzan Kadyrov to keep the peace.

The major fighting was over relatively quickly before the fighting turned into an insurgency and terrorist campaign after 2001 that persists to some extent to this day.

The Russians performed better still during the Russo-Georgian war of 2008, but they still had major deficiencies in their fighting capabilities and doctrine (like relying on cell phones for communication and US civilian GPS for navigation(.

After that the Russians launched a major overhaul of their force structure, composition, and doctrine, as well as starting a massive rearmament program that was funded from their then booming economy.

Interestingly one of the things that the Russians continued to fund in the crisis days of the collapse of the Soviet system was high-tech research and development, as well as their nuclear arsenal (for obvious reasons).

Russia's military is probably better trained, equipped, and more prepared for war than at any other point in it's history (the 1960's and 1970's for the Soviets are roughly comparable).

Nah, there were Russian troops in at least two operations against the Hohols. One was North Wind where Russian forces destroyed the spearhead of the Hohols and made it all the way to the Azov Sea from Dontesk within a few days without proper artillery support and no air support. The other time that Russian Military intervened was during the forming of the kotel around Debaltsevo. There Buryat tankers closed the kotel and encircled thousands of Hohols. All these operations are open secrets, but those operations were done way to well to be rebels.

This is true of all militaries though, it's important to note.

A DS of mine worked with Canadians in the 'Stan, I never did, but from what he told me Canada had the best specialist infantry of any force he worked with. They didn't have much support (without us), and they didn't have enough guys or equipment to have proper grunts, but they had excellent specialist infantry.

The only canadian Officer I ever met believed that civilians shouldn't be allowed to own firearms, and got mad at me whenever I told him that was fucking stupid (not in a professional environment). It's because the ussr had no reason to propagandize the fact that their manpower got fucked during the war or the fact that they were about to launch an attack on Germany and got out surprised before they could do it. War and postwar propaganda concentrated on post-Stalingrad push back almost exclusively, and played up the grim but slow steamrolling of nazi forces. This is to distract from all the shit going on during the German push into Poland/Russia which was both a result of their first strike armies/equipment being caught with their pants down and humiliating for Russia that they were getting so blown the fuck out.

Explain why the ussr was raped even harder than France despite how many more men and equipment they had, and after they had mobilized to take over Poland?

Their shit was organized for attack and their planes were on the ground instead of running combat patrol, they got caught preparing a surprise attack
>>
>>68138638
Not very. They have numbers, but that's about it. The logistics portion of the Russian military means that the vast majority of their tech is rusted heaps of shit. Just look at the botched invasion of Georgia and how long it took them to invade a neighboring country. That's not to say they're military is SHIT, it's just not very good and needs a lot of work before they could even consider going toe to toe with the West without resorting to nukes.

And all you're doing is backpedaling from the fact that US CBGs would get blown the fuck out by Russian ASM.

First it was some imaginary defense that gorillions were spent on so it must be good.

Then it was, the Russians aren't in range.

Then it was, the Russians can't get there.

Then the submarines can't co-ordinate.

Just fucking stop already, kek.

Nigger, you were actually sitting here and pretending a Flanker can't carry ASM, have you forgotten that or what?

The difficulty in understanding the Russian is that we do not take cognizance of the fact that he is not a European, but an Asiatic, and therefore thinks deviously. We can no more understand a Russian than a Chinese or a Japanese, and from what I have seen of them, I have no particular desire to understand them except to ascertain how much lead or iron it takes to kill them. In addition to his other amiable characteristics, the Russian has no regard for human life and they are all out sons-of-bitches, barbarians, and chronic drunks.

Russia KNOWS what she wants. WORLD DOMINATION. And she is laying her plans accordingly. We, on the other hand, and England and France to a lesser extent, don't know what we want. We get less than nothing as a result. If we have to fight them, now is the time. From now on, we will get weaker and they will get stronger. Let's keep out boots polished, bayonets sharpened, and present a picture of force and strength to the Russians. This is the only language that they understand and respect.
>>
>>68153168
But they don't have numbers, China and the us have much higher manpower reserves, so does Europe (but they might not last long enough to use it)

I can see some on that and some has profound historical backgorund but still: After 1990 and the "revolution" of russia they could have sold it like that:

Oh noo, we were to proud to say that but the germnas genocided us and we want the UN claim to back that.

Boom: Any you know the german would have gave in because we know our historical responsibility. Imagine what kind of benefit they would have nowadays. You sanction us? lol, you genocided us you can´t. Same works for Israel. We give the free stuff for years and say sry every other month

Russia had that for years 2bh. It's basically panoramic microphones, picking up the peak frequencies of shots and pinpointing the direction.

The Russian versions are inmplemented into multicfunctional electronic warfare units and more compact tho, because they weren't used much in the military, but in the security sector instead. you can see them on black Benz cars in Moscow.

The whole system is picking up shot shounds, pick up and jam radio and electromagnetic frequencies and the advanced versions check the possible sniper scopes and lasers.

I think they accept losses better than the west. They seem to see it as a fact of war, the west treats war like a office diversity team building exercise. Russians are hard as fuck.

In the west we're all like "muh d-day, Iraq and Vietnam" the Russians roll their eyes and think, "that was a day in Stalingrad".
>>
>>68153302
This is obsfucating the fact that I alluded to in my post: everyone got raped, Russia got raped like 10 times worse.

France resisted for weeks and Even Poland was still fighting back in Warsaw, Russia lost like 100x the land and a few times more men than either of them, why do you think they got wrecked so hard for so long?

>submarines can't co-ordinate
Never said that, I just said they can't do it easily. When submarine communicates, it's far easier to detect it.

They are trained to be tougher and a bit more thuggish than our forces. And they come to the fight with zest and zeal. Man for man, they can be said to be tougher than ours. But with our falling standards that is what happens when you have Liberals run your country.

Their tech is outdated but they have a lot of it. Their tech is also cheap to make and maintain and can be deployed in massive numbers, some of it being surprisingly sturdy even if it is garbage compared to the west's best. They aren't as well trained in the art of finesse, thats true. You send Spetsnaz to deal with a hostage situation? You are going to end up with piles of dead hostages, but they get the job done.

But if you put one of ours in a small room with one of theirs, usually theirs will be the only one leaving.

This will continue. Especially if we keep lowering our standards to cater to political correctness. But I suppose the left will be comfortable dragging this country down to it's death, so long as it is "diverse" when it is tossed into the grave.

I suppose with this continued trend, our only hope is that technology takes over for our failings. Provided, of course, that that technology doesn't rebel and kill all of us.

first and foremost they need a much stronger economy and industry because at this rate they can barely support a war against a weak neighbour like georgia/ukraine or a small intervention like in syria
then they need to modernise their army and get rid/sell most of that old soviet shit thats costing a lot to store and keep operational and wont be used in a serious war.
their intervention in syria is a good step towards that matter, most of the old planes used there will not come back because they have already exceeded their operational capabilities in flight hours , and they will probably be able to sell a lot of soviet era btrs, bmps, mlrs and t-somethings to poorfag asian countries. its better to have a variety of 20 vehicles that you can built spare parts and ammo for than 100 vehicles that you need to constanly figure out tricks to keep them working because they have stopped producing certain parts for them since the 80s
as for the soldiers to become on par with the americans they have to go into combat and not just selfies like they mostly did in syria. and that unfortunately means deaths but theres no other way

Russia is going down the superpower ladder. It's citizens are too stupid to put a effective government in power, and the government is going out of its way to make its citizens stupid to stay in power. The only reason they aren't suffering massive famines like they have in the past is that everyone else has made farming shit easy.

It's pretty freaky when one of these cars passes you - your radio and phone signal go dead and your GPS start freaking out. I've been told there are FSB cars with EMI emitters, that shut down your electronics, but I don't know it it's true.

Because Barbarossa was a more massive operation. Because combat was far more severe. Because Germans were commited to a policy of genocide, unlike in France. For example, a huge number of Soviet casualties are prisoners, who were killed/starved in millions.

georgia was a two week war 10 years ago. actual russian military intervention in ukraine is debatable, if we are talking about modern combined arms offensives. keep in mind usa has some soldiers into actual combat almost everyday in the last 15 years and many thousands constantly mobilised, getting sent into warzones doing combat patrols and low level fighting etc.
i think chechnya and dagestan are much better for experience although georgia and to some extent ukraine are more comparable to conventional wars. im not sure how much of the ukrainian populace want to fight the russians though especially in those areas where there is war.

The more i read about this subject the more fascinated i am becoming - in part because years ago i happened to be riding a bicycle when what appeared to be a VIP motorcade drove by. I pulled out my phone to pause my music and take a picture, but the phone had become frozen only to start working normally again a few minutes after they had fully driven by. And by frozen I mean I hit the pause button and the button just stayed illuminated, the music stopped, but nothing else would function. I guess its not a coinkydink that i never had before and never again had that problem with that phone.

Creepy.
