He was forced into a war with Poland, and the Soviets wanted the land too. The German government and it's people were a testament to full right-wing policies. The Germans quickly came out of debt and built one of the most awesome war machines the world have ever seen, along with much of the economic growth seen.

I actually think one of Hitler's main qualities was that he was in fact surrounded by great people. He had the best generals, the best propaganda and security services probably ever assembled. Himmler, Henirch, Goebbels, Goering were all competent people.
Looking at who a leader surrounds himself with is a good way to sort of get a grasp of what kind of person or leader he was.
Hitler was probably quite competent overall, especially in political matters, but simply got too high on his own invincibility and thought he couldn't possibly lose to the Russians.
I think if Hitler had won the Second World War he'd be considered today as something of a Napoleon instead of an absolute monster. Of course, Napoleon was also considered a monster by many for a very long time.
