"The lessons to be learned from Weimar Germany are not the ones we hear and read about today. Weimar Germany did not collapse under the weight of its various crises. It was actively destroyed by a conservative elite – noble landowners, high-level state officials, businessmen, army officers – that chose to ally with the Nazi Party. As we watch the Republican establishment’s ineffectual flailings to stop Donald Trump, it’s worth remembering that Weimar Germany’s old-style conservatives never really liked Hitler and the Nazis either. To them, the Nazis were too loud, uncouth, low class. But they admired Hitler’s nationalism, his promise to revive Germany’s great power status, his opposition to democracy, and his anti-communism. And they were either indifferent to or actively supported the Nazis’ anti-Semitism."

the real lesson to be learned from Hitler is that deficits don't matter and that Keynes was right.

Naaaah, I'm pretty sure the Weimar Republic collapsed because the jewish bankers fucked Germany so hard with the Treaty of Versailles that the Germany currency/economy had collapsed and begun reverting to a barter-based system. And then you had jewish bolsheviks who had backstabbed Germany in WW1 trying to turn Germany into a communist nation as part of the Glorious Worker's Revolution, but Hitler decided to drink some beer and putsch back instead.

Speaking of which, what happened to the women when Weimar Germany switched to Nazi Germany? Surely men didn't marry "reformed" sluts?

It was good for the "globalists"

Trump is taking over the country peacefully.
Hitler sent his brownshirts to silence his political opponents and other parties.

>Bill Moyers
lel

>Bush-appointeeCorporation for Public BroadcastingchairmanKenneth Tomlinsonwas a regular critic of Moyers; in 2003, he wrote toPat Mitchell, the president of PBS, that "[NOW with Bill Moyers] does not contain anything approaching the balance the law requires for public broadcasting."[62]In 2005, Tomlinson commissioned a study of the show, without informing or getting authorization from the CPB board.[63]Tomlinson said that the study supported what he characterized as "the image of the left-wing bias of NOW".[64] George Neumayr, the executive editor of The American Spectator, a conservative magazine, told theNewsHour with Jim Lehrerthat "PBS looks like a liberal monopoly to me, and Bill Moyers is Exhibit A of that very strident, left-wing bias... [Moyers] uses his show as a platform from which to attack conservatives and Republicans."

That's actually a pretty good analysis, not the whole story but a good part of it.

>After the resignation of White House Chief of StaffWalter Jenkinsbecause of a sexual misdemeanor in the run up to the1964 election, PresidentLyndon B. Johnson, alarmed that the opposition was framing the issue as a security breach, ordered Moyers to requestFBI name checkson 15 members of Goldwater'sstaff to find "derogatory" material on their personal lives.
>Goldwater himself only referred to the Jenkins incident off the record.
>The Church Committeestated in 1975 that "Moyers has publicly recounted his role in the incident, and his account is confirmed by FBI documents." In 2005, Laurence Silbermanclaimed that Moyers denied writing the memo in a 1975 phone call. Moyers said he had a different recollection of the telephone conversation.[10]

Moyers also sought information from the FBI on the sexual preferences of White House staff members, most notablyJack Valenti.[11]Moyers indicated his memory was unclear on why Johnson directed him to request such information, "but that he may have been simply looking for details of allegations first brought to the president byHoover."

>JournalistMorley Saferin his 1990 book "Flashbacks" wrote that Moyers and President Johnson met with and "harangued" Safer's boss,CBSpresident Frank Stanton, about Safer's coverage of the Marines torchingCam Nevillage in theVietnam War. During the meeting, Safer alleges, Johnson threatened to expose Safer's "communist ties". This was a bluff, according to Safer. Safer says that Moyers was "if not a key player, certainly a key bystander" in the incident. Moyers stated that his hard-hitting coverage of conservative presidentsReaganandBushwere behind Safer's 1990 allegations.

There are parallels between Trump and Hitler, but there are also parallels between EVERY politician and Hitler, because we live in a hyper-Hitler-aware society that's very, very scared of any sort of charisma or energy in our politicians. There's a perfectly healthy level of Hitler-fear, and then there's outright fearmongering. Too much media lately has been falling into the latter category.

Germany was in absolute shambles prior to Hitler's rise, unlike the current US, and this author's attempts to downplay the importance of Germany's post-cataclysmic state in Hitler's rise fall flat for me.

>barely survived a jewish commie revolution
It ended the moment the SPD authorized the Freikorps
That's not "barely survived"
>>
There may actually be something worth considering in the Weimar America comparison. For example, its interesting how both respective countries were at their most decadent, sexually liberated and free healthcarishness ever, but there were still roving hordes of gommie thugs.

m8 you have a trash understanding of history. Germany's economy crashed because they did an utterly shit job of managing their wartime economy, and the blockade crippled their imports. The stabbed in the back myth was invented by the very man who recommended their own surrender, as a way to salvage his political career. Everyone knew the financial situation was unsustainable, and the navy was in open revolt, allying with the starving populace to create a revolutionary force rather than falling on their swords to try and stop the invasion of Germany. People were starving to death in the factories, and killing in the streets.

The communists made their move, but got rekt. Wiemar went up, had some stiff reparations, but they were manageable. Lets not forget that for "reparations" intended to punish Germany and prevent her from rising again, Wiemar Germany managed to get back on her feet again despite that. So those crushing reparations were pretty fucking shit. What screwed Wiemar Germany up was more terrible financial planning in the early years, and the lack of access to American capital due to the great depression when they really were starting to get their shit together by the end of the 29.
