You'd need a tremendous discontent among the people. And I mean famine, constant unrest, illness, etc.
What you actually have is two groups, somewhat content with their lives, hating each other. If anything, the goverment will try to shut either one down but the police and military won't side with anybody, they'll do as they're told.

You're missing the most important element: external support for both sides. The Spanish civil war was the precursor to WW2, and was fought in that context. Franco was inspired by fascism, while the Republic was overrun by comintern bullshit.

There is no way a military coup in the U.S. would be anything but illegal. Our Constitution is airtight and it doesn't allow for anything of the sort to happen. Our soldiers would not follow those orders.

What is significantly lacking is a strong left wing movement. Despite /pol/'s idea the SJW's somehow control the world, they really don't have any power at all and are pretty much marginalized and the left is probably the weakest it has been in about 100 years, probably since after Wilson's Red Scare. It's so disjointed and fragmented, it lacks any concise direction and organization. Outside of little shows of outrage against Trump its not very visible.

Franco left Spain as the 9th greatest economy in the world with a huge industry, a great public health care and the best legal protection of workers ever. Also he made incredible buildings, highways and lakes. He created the Spanish middle class (one building in the city, another in the beach or country and a car), there were much less corruption and the average purchasing power of the working class was much bigger. Also we hadnt unemployment problems, nore massive immigration ir criminality/unsafety or drug problems. But the greatest lost of soveingcy, competivity, working conditions and purchasing power came in the 2000s with the begginig of the Euro era. Also we get a massive way of third world immigration (6M or more), all of this thanks to Aznar and Zapatero. And the beggining of our massive unemployment problem and our sick society began with Zapatero and went worse when Rajoy kicked out the latests working rights we had. Now every member if the family have to work many hours to get the same conditions, and we cant have children (no time for them).
