Do you have any idea how impractical nukes are? The main reason for war is acquisition of land and resources. The bombs these days have a payload 50x greater than the nukes that were tested. There is absolutely no fucking way anyone is going to detonate a 50+megatonne warhead on anything that they want to control.

What America was doing to Tokyo with firebombs was much worse then what nukes could do, Japan was on the retreat all year and had no more oil to maintain the war. The Americans knew they were going to surrender sooner or later and its speculated that the nukes were more a quick way of ending the war so Japan surrender to America and not the soviets that were just about to stage a landing on North Japan.

I dont have any sauce on this but iv read somewhere that in one of the many times Pakistan attacked India they were about to use nukes, but the Americans shut them down. Sometimes its a good thing America has their fingers in every pie.

Before the buildup to WWI, many were claiming that increased globalization during that period, facilitated by newly invented forms of mass communications and transit, meant that war between major nations was becoming impossible. There was an extended direct peace between powers, and even as a new power, Germany, brought doubt to the international community, a system of alliances was formed that seemed to be capable of completely deterring war.
We are living in the longest period of peace between major powers in the history of the world. People claim that globalization will protect us from war, even as new powers like China step up to the bat to shake up the international order. Still, people shout that alliances like NATO will assuredly prevent a truly major war from breaking out.
History loves to repeat itself, and we're living in the early 1900's.

It all has one root cause - complacence. Comfortable societies produce soft men, which is the epidemic that's rampant across Europe and the US now.

The only way a war could happen is when a developed country fights a 3rd world country.
No country of the same demographic would fight because it would be a stalemate or a bloody massacre... but if a developed country bullied a 3rd world country, anyone else would just look the otherway and make sanctions.
