What you're a describing is libertarianism by Adam Smith, not capitalism. We have a society that are founded on the ideals of Mercantile Capitalism which were founded by protestant ideal as seen described by Franklin and other similars from his time.
The fact that you must pay to a shared interest dosn't trumf that one of the main criterias for being in EU is that you have to be able to fufill the Copenhagen Criteria (have a democracy and a liberal economy).

Modern Western societies are corporocracies with heavy socialist leanings. A free market can only exist in a state in which the freedom of that market is protected from manipulation.
