It is if you are, isn't /pol/ just a reflection of yourself and your opinions surrounded by the opinions of other people?

I'm not an atheist, and plenty others seem to be too interested in truth to fall to atheism, so I'd say no. But if you say yes, than how am I to change you?

Yeah. Not out of edginess or any kind of rebellion though.

I went to Sunday School as a kid and just never drank the Kool Aid. Perhaps it was because they mostly told us parables and stories like Jonas and the whale and... some king who was going to cut a baby in half to settle a debate or something? Anyway, unlike Aesop's fables these were presented as fact. And so was the story of the virgin birth, the bright star, manger, etc., the crucifixion, resurrection, and so on. It just never sat with me.

Mum and dad didn't really care, but they thought it was important to learn *about* religions, because they're out there and they're a fairly big part of society (or at least people's motives for things they do in society). So they never really pushed it.

Most people under 40 or so here are "secular" or "~~just spiritual~~" if not flatout atheist. Churches are needing to consolidate their congregations, and there are dwindling numbers every year.

I don't consider it a bad thing, but I am aware that a more relaxed, nonplussed attitude is a vacuum that Islamists want to exploit, since nobody really thinks they have a stake in it anymore. "I'm not religious, but I believe in religious freedoms, so we should let them build more mosques bla bla bla"
>>
>>68098440
I am.

There is no proof of god and there never has been. The very fact the word "atheist" exist is sad to say the least. We give a labelbtk people who simply do not believe that which has no proven evidence to exist.

My favorite argument the religious retard makes is "can you prove god doesn't exist?". I always have a laugh when the religious retard says that. He forgets the fact that he is the one making outlandish claims. When someone makes an extraordinary claims the onus falls strictly on them to prove said claim. Which of course they cannot.

/pol/ is not a monolith.
I would say atheism and Apostolic Christianity are the biggest groups within the board though.
>>
>>68098440
I am, there are others. Though you'd never know with how much the religious posters advertise.

Though with that said I am starting to think that religion is a necessary evil for a healthy society. As it stands today atheism leads too many people to embrace incredibly self-destructive ideas which often feel good, but have no future in them.
>>
>>68100928
>I'm not an atheist, and plenty others seem to be too interested in truth to fall to atheism,

That's fucking laughable. It takes some serious leaps of logic and mental gymnastics to buy into religion as being real.

Sure, I can understand arguing that religion is a good thing for society and such, but the idea that any of it is true is absolute bullshit.
>>
>>68101775
right. my mother is Catholic and I identify with that somewhat, but I don't believe in God either, although religion was never pushed on me at all.

But yeah it's pretty much standard to be atheistic as a young Australian, I've found. Perhaps I'd have more disdain for religious people were I an American, but here in Aus, Christians I know are particularly benevolent... besides George Pell

If anything 4chan as a whole is a melting pot of countless positions on practically everything. All of which should be ignored because the majority of people here are fucking retarded, myself included as I'm sure I'll be reminded soon enough. The question being directed to /pol/ is irrelevant since it's obvious people spill over from other boards when anything remotely interesting happens.

Of the apostolic sects of Christianity (Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Coptic) rather than Protestantism (Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, and the thousands of other Protestant sects).

The name deriving from the fact that apostolic succession is upheld in those sects but not in Protestantism. /pol/'s Christian and Atheist base is pretty strongly anti-Protestant.

>/pol/'s Christian and Atheist base is pretty strongly anti-Protestant

i would have thought most of the american christians were evangelical protestants.

And you would be right. /pol/ had a pro-Christian period that led to denominational fighting and Protestants losing horribly. This is the only reason why /pol/ moved against the American Christian demographic.

/pol/ was very pro-Catholicism but when /his/ started a view Orthodoxy posters started up and it effected here too so "Apostolic Christianity" is a general term. Orthodox and Catholics here seem to largely be on good terms with one another too.

Only Catholics believe the majority of the world are catholic.
All statistics for this are based on the Churches made up statistics.
Want proof?
In 2011, the Churches stated there was a steady decrease in attendance, while the numbers their diocese reported to the UN were nearly doubled... because they "estimated".

Only idiots believe in authority-derived stats.
I also think you're arriving at this via the "false consensus" effect.
