This is what I really liked about australia. I used to hate the fact that I needed I fucking a fishing licence and a fishing permit for the body of water I want to fish in, but too be fair - Germany is a country with 4 times the population of Australia with the size of a fifth of Queensland.
And afaik the guys I fished with also had some kind of licence and we were only allowed a certain amount of fish per person.

As far as surfing, you're never far from a break here. Dunedin has one of the most consistent breaks in the country. There's practically always a wave within a half hour drive, it's not uncommon to have it to yourself.
It's somewhat of a nanny state. There's a reasonably comfy welfare system, with the associated leeches. Health and safety regs getting authoritarian, but i believe that's a global phenomenon. Income taxes are actually lower than Aus and the US I'm pretty sure, but GST is 15%. I practically never lock my doors (the people I bought the house from never once did, they didn't even have keys). Went there for a mate's graduatation, as I saw pic related I got the fuck out of there.
