Zeitoun is a nonfiction book written by Dave Eggers and published by McSweeney's in 2009. It tells the story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, the Syrian-American owner of a painting and contracting company in New Orleans, Louisiana who chose to ride out Hurricane Katrina in his Uptown home. After the hurricane, he traveled the flooded city in a secondhand canoe rescuing neighbors, caring for abandoned pets and distributing fresh water, but was arrested without reason or explanation at one of his rental houses, along with three others, by a mixed group of U.S. Army National Guard soldiers and local police officers. Zeitoun and the others were accused of terrorist activities, presumably because of the large amount of money found in their possession as well as maps of the city and a storage disc, and were detained for 23 days. Zeitoun was refused medical attention and the use of a phone to alert his family. His wife and daughters, who were staying with friends far away from the city, only learned that he had disappeared.
Reminds me of how there's nothing more comfy than watching hurricane coverage, and hopefully being just along the outskirts so feeder bands give you some of that wind and rain, but none of the power outages or fallen trees.

Also gas prices. Places started charging over 2 dollars a gallon for a week or 2. People botched then forgot about it, then gas went over 2 dollars again and stayed until people accepted it as normal then it went to 3 dollars a gallon then almost 4 then back under 2 when our Lord Obama was sworn into office. Katrina allowed the oil industry to rape the world for 3 years.

NEW ORLEANS (September 9, 2005) — Divers inspecting the ruptured levee walls surrounding New Orleans found something that piqued their interest: Burn marks on underwater debris chunks from the broken levee wall!
One diver, a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, saw the burn marks and knew immediately what caused them. He secreted a small chunk of the cement inside his diving suit and later arranged for it to be sent to trusted military friends at a The US Army Forensic Laboratory at Fort Gillem, Georgia for testing.
According to well placed sources, a military forensic specialist determined the burn marks on the cement chunks did, in fact, come from high-explosives. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity said “We found traces of boron-enhanced fluoronitramino explosives as well as PBXN-111. This would indicate at least two separate types of explosive devices.”
The levee ruptures in New Orleans did not take place during Hurricane Katrina, but rather a day after the hurricane struck. Several residents of New Orleans and many Emergency Workers reported hearing what sounded like large, muffled explosions from the area of the levee, but those were initially discounted as gas explosions from homes with leaking gas lines.
If these allegations prove true, the ruptured levee which flooded New Orleans was a deliberate act of mass destruction perpetrated by someone with access to military-grade UNDERWATER high explosives.

Building codes. Hurricane winds aren't going to be excessive unless it's a 5, and that's not common. So if your house is cinderblock, you have shutters, and your roof is secured/reinforced, only the possible tornadoes a hurricane spawns will pose any major threat to complete destruction. Other damage in strong windstorms is more or less guaranteed, like needing to re-roof. The other major threat is flooding.
Why building codes in midwest allow for full timber construction is beyond me. Fuckers are literally asking for it. Unless that's changed and it's just always old homes getting blown away.

There's something very wrong with the chronology of the levee breaks in New Orleans
Do you find it highly suspicious that the levees in New Orleans broke at 4:00 AM on August 30th?
The main storm surge from Hurricane Katrina would have been washed into Lake Pontchartrain at about 7:00 AM on August 29th when the counterclockwise motion of Katrina was pushing water from the Gulf of Mexico into the lake.
Why is there a 21 hour discrepancy between the storm surge and the collapse of the levees?
During the initial news coverage, some media outlets tried to explain away the time discrepancy as a "secondary storm surge" off of Lake Pontchartrain. Hurricanes DO NOT, never have and never will create "secondary storm surges". There's only one storm surge, the main surge while a hurricane makes landfall.
A secondary storm surge is about as believable as a magic bullet. But of course anybody who logically investigates the facts of this catastrophe will be accused of spending way too much time on the grassy knoll.
Now lets move on to the next two questions.
Why did pumping station #6, according to a statement made by New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin during an interview with Matt Lauer on the August 29th edition of the Today Show, fail in the lower 9th ward, which also happens to be the section of New Orleans which is the deepest part of the city? Why did the Industrial Canal levee break near the 9th ward a few hours later?

It's interesting that both the failure of pumping station #6 and the Industrial Canal levee occurred within hours of each other within the same geographic area.
The breakdown of pumping station #6 would have gradually allowed the flooding of the 9th ward and force it's residents to flee to the second floor and roofs of their houses.
The immediate flood of water from the breach of the Industrial Canal levee a few hours later would have easily drowned everyone who was unlucky enough to still be inside of their home in the lower 9th ward and waterlog every single one of those houses up to the roof. By the time the water is pumped out the city, all of those waterlogged houses will have to be condemned and torn down.
In light of the U.S. Supreme Court's recent eminent domain decision on private property, the City of New Orleans can easily condemn all of those destroyed properties and seize the land under eminent domain when the city is rebuilt. Of course with most of the residents of the 9th ward ending up dead, there's no one left to reclaim the properties or to fight back against city hall. Very convenient for anyone wishing to seize that property.

I was a part of the naval rescue force that was plucking those people out of the water after the levees broke. The mayor, NOAA, the natiional guard, - everyone - knew that this was "the big one" and extremely dangerous days in advance. The only people who said fuck you to the evacuation orders were the blacks, who say fuck you to everything whitey asks them to do. This is the only video of the warning I could find. I can tell you without reservation that the response force was massive and overwhelming. We deployed with 5000 men, ready to go for 6 months, on 12 hours notice. The way that we remember it as a "government failure" and somehow racist is offensive and disgusting. This type of thing encapsulates why the riots and complaints in the country will never stop....no matter what.
They are completely irresponsible and unwilling to take any responsibility for the deaths THEY were responsible for by not evacuating to baton rouge like the other residents did. It was, without a doubt, my very first real red pill.

There were choppers in the air 24/7 pulling people from their roofs and providing them with food, water, and medicine. They were treated in the very best way possible considering the circumstances.
Man me and my family got displaced cause of the storm. We brought everything we could carry with us, including our cat and dog. The city was absolute shit when we got back; martial law, looting, entire blocks abandoned the list goes on. You can still see areas that are noticeably still affected from Katrina and this shithole city cant even fix its own roads.

There was more than enough water and rations once the troops were on-site. The problem was the in-between time.
The main issue was with power. Hospitals and other places with "refugees" lost power and it was a huge issue. They worked around the clock to restore everything they could as quickly as they could.
Its worth noting that since they knew of the severity of the storm, the local officials had the superdome and convention center open days before the storm made landfall to anyone who couldn't afford to evacuate. They were both fucking empty to those offers.
Then somehow once the people who were able to get there started filing in, its somehow George Bush's fault and the government hates black people. To this day, I am highly offended and get *triggered* when people try to act like the government just didn't give a fuck.
They were sending planes to pick up doctors, engineers, etc - no expense spared. They deployed basically the entire flagship carrier group from the atlantic fleet.

I was there, had just started grad school at Tulane that summer. The levees were known to be shit and the fuckers buckled, you could hear them go as they broke and the water rushed through.
New Orleans was built on a malaria infested swamp by the French and has been flooding for 300+ years. The cheaper, shittier areas are naturally in most flood prone area so where niggers live.
Have lived in Atlanta, NYC, Miami, Memphis, and New Orleans niggers are at a whole different level. Hurricane actually cleaned out the city, was best thing to ever happen there in long term.

The original city (The French district) was built on hills, and thus it was safe from flooding. The poor nigs/whites lived in the low-level flood areas. This all changed with the advent of pumps, electricity and levees. The below sea levels area didn't need to worry about river and lake flooding after that. Unfortunately, when you leave infrastructure to blacks, it tends to degrade. The hurricane didn't flood New Orleans, the broken levees from the lake flooded New Orleans.
I went to NO two years ago. The city feels like a fortress with the new levees. It felt like Tokyo-3.
