The 50's make me feel ill. Everything feels, just not right. Like sterilized and plastic and very fake but there's some depraved shit going on beneath the Leave it to Beaver surface. A lot of horror and sci-fi dystopia movies use 50's imagery for that reason I think.
The vast majority of media put out back then and even since portrays the whole era as some American golden age where men where men (despite many being fucked up from the war who fetishized the military or beating their wives and children while sleeping around), women were women (despite so many housewives being batshit crazy and hooked on medications) kids were more wholesome and innocent, America having more values and honor (paranoia over the reds) etc. Take a look at most of the tv from the day, Andy Griffith and Leave it to Beaver and all those shows put present this really bizarre ant-farm kind of depiction of American life in the suburbs with the same exact houses that come off an assembly line with the same white picket fences.

I remember my grandparents. They were married for over 60 years until they passed away. They were happy. Other people at the assisted living home envied them greatly, and tried to hook up with my grandfather after grandmother died. Literally like a king and queen of prom sort of deal.
You see, I remember visiting them when they lived in their own house (which turned into a ghetto and is now an abandoned crack house on a corner) We'd show up, watch a game show, have dinner, chat about regular life. And they'd do things like go out, do a crossword puzzle, etc. And you know what? They were content. They were still happy with each other. Sometimes, it was just silent rocking in a chair, but the company of another was enough. Grandmother wasn't a cheating whore constantly needing entertainment. Grandfather was humble and happy for his family, and had hobbies of his own at home. They were happy and generous and gave their descendants money once in a while just to be nice.
They were literally the mother and father to children in 1950's America. Grandfather was a war veteran. Grandmother worked on a farm. They had all the shit a 1950's world had to offer. And they were genuinely happy. Not this robot shit a 1980's music video portrays.
