Why? Are they stupid? Wait why am i asking.

so contempt of court? what is that
Well, now that they're paying for it, might as well get their money's worth.
>>68024056
>suicide over a fucking sex tape
>>68024056
Lol they are screwed anyway.
Gawker doesn't have 100 million dollars prolly.
>>68024056
wasn't that from a while ago
They should just make a decentralized torrent and call it a day.
Why "not take down" something on the internet when things stay on the internet forever on their own accord.
Do they honestly think this is a big moral thing, keeping an illegal sex tape up? lol gawker
>>68024567
Their entire company is worth a little over 300 million.
>>68024056
This is one of those cases where Im happy that some shit left wing site actually got what they deserved.
I can't find that tweet. Link to it?

How ya gonna spend that $115,000,000 Hulk?

>>68024807
So they are losing over a 3rd of their company
>>68024056
Well they know they will get shut down, so I guess they are just trying to act like they are making some moral stand or something
>>68024807
That includes all their assets, they cannot afford the 115 million without selling a ton of their shit.
>>68024807
worth =/= cash
>>68024526
Gawker doesnt have the money
>>68025196
Lmfao they're going to have to sell their company and use the cash to pay legal fees. They're so fucking screwed.
Thank God this fucking rag is going bankrupt over this, sites like gawker are pure cancer to the world.
>>68024056
Surprised how many people have fallen for it, OP. For those who don't know, this was from a while ago.

They blatantly broke the law and they thought moral outrage and oppression hierarchy made it okay. Then they sat down in front of reality which fined them 115 million.
>>68024807
Gawker doesn't have the money. Worth goes down as a company's value is shittier, so they would have to sell most their assets + most the shares in the company.
TLDR: Gawker will die, just appealing it will bankrupt them.

Thank fuck. The best thing is no one is even going to touch either the parent company or any of it's subsidiaries due to how toxic they are.

accountant fag here. any company that would get a judgement that equals roughly a third of their company's market cap would instantly go bankrupt. The assets on their balance sheet would be instantly wiped out.
>>68024056
This tweet is literally from years ago. I've seen some faggotry in my day OP but you really went all out on this one.
SAGE
>>68025055
They won't sell anything, they'll issue new shares or take a loan. They're still turning a profit, which is all it takes to get investors. It's only the current owners who suffers from the lawsuit because issuing new shares would dilute existing shares, but the alternative is declaring bankrupcy which will end up giving them nothing since Gawker's assets would have shit liquidity.
Either way they won't have to pay in the end. The only reason for them not removing the video must be because they are 100% sure they'll win the appeal. More importantly it would also explain why the acted like idiots in this trial. The head editor might be an idiot but the owners aren't, and they've obviously taken control at this point. They just want media attention and winning the trial wouldn't have gotten them that. No one wants to read about unsuccessful lawsuits.
>>68024056

I hate gawker and the msm and sjw's but this judgment is ridiculous

No it isn't. The jury was 100% correct, Gawker broke the law and advocated breaking the law, and have been correctly punished.

Let me clarify some stuff because /pol/ once again shows how fucking stupid they are trying to be armchair lawyers.
Hogan was awarded 55 million in economical collateral damages and 60 million for emotional distress, amounting to 115 million with punitive damages not yet to be awarded. It is Florida state law that you cannot be awarded more than 4 times the collateral damages, which would be 220 million, but Florida has a history of awarding punitive fees at a ratio of 1:0.7. There is two important things about this, even if the Jury were to decide to award full punitive fees, the judge can, and will reduce the amount awarded. So expect around 80 million in additional punitive fees.
Now in regards to the appeal process, Gawker has to post a bond, key word being bond, equal to the collateral damages of 55 million. This means they will get a bond company to post the bond, they won't have to pay it out of their own pocket yet. In regards to their chance to win the appeal, they have a much better chance as the Florida court of appeals is split nearly 50:50 when in comes to similar cases to theirs.
So please keep your shitposting to a minimum until we know they've lost their appeal.
>>68029230

They deliberately ignored the order of the judge to take it down earlier because they're fucking stupid and the editor that posted the sex tape said that there would be public interest of posting sex tapes of celebrities kids as long as they were four years of age or older.
What bail bondsman would consider giving them a bond that they will have zero ability to repay if they lose, especially considering the high likelihood to fail on appeal?
>>68038166
Prolly some of the minor ones like the military one and Valleywag, they'll probably limit it to the core 4 (Deadspin, Jezebel, Kotaku, and Gawker). I imagine after that Kotaku and maybe Deadspin are sold off because those brands actually have some value, then the site goes dark.
>>68025861
Only gizmodo has a chance really. Maybe soros will by jezebel himself through femen or something equally sinister.

>*airhorns blast*
Hulk Hogan should donate a lot of this to Black Lives Matter or Southern Poverty Law Center or some similar organization or movement.
No one needs this amount of money and it would compliment his apology for his racism well.
Spread maybe 112 million around to various organizations and movements, I'd say.
Which still leaves an already rich celebrity with 3 million US dollars (more than many will earn in their lifetime)

>>68042554
None of the quotes implied that.
For the people posting that the company is worth 300 million, that was only a rough estimation of how much the company is worth and has no connection with how much money they actually got on hand. They're estimated to have anything between 8 to 20 million dollars. They'd have to ask for a loan (who would give them one though?) or have a rich investor willing to fork over the money to appeal the decision.
>>68042765

Yes, but companies are not pie charts that can be split up like that. hey do not have anywhere close to the liquid assets to cover this as well as massive legal fees from this trial and the upcoming appeals process. Gawker will have to sell off a huge portion of their core business and I do not believe they will survive.
