There is nothing wrong with learning Swedish. Finnish Swedes were extremely important in building our nation's national identity also in opposition to Sweden itself.
I didn't learn much Swedish during the mandatory classes, though. I had to learn it later on my own.
If mandatory Swedish is abolished, it needs to be replaced by a mandatory third language of choice. The problem with this, though, is that smaller schools will struggle to provide options.
