Yeah I also think he would be a terrible president and don't think any rational person could argue that he is a good politician with a well-reasoned ideology, but at the same time I find his popularity interesting and won't condemn his supporters. He's a protest vote, and the protest is against the type of politics which seems to have dominated western politics for at least 20 years - career politicians who will gladly change their beliefs at the behest of opinion polls and focus groups, no real diversity in political opinion even between groups because everyone is moderate, politicians whose only real goal is to become powerful by pandering to the public's thirst for celebrity. And even though it's a Reddit-tier show, I think House Of Cards satirises the state of politics brilliantly.
Now that the public are becoming more aware and dissatisfied about this, protest votes are becoming more popular - suddenly honest and principled politicans are a more attractive opinion. On the right wing you have Trump supporters who think he is speaking honestly about politically incorrect truths, and on the left wing you have Sanders, who is a principled socialist. There's a similar situation in the UK with the growing popularity of Farage and Corbyn, and I think the same sort of thing is happening in many European countries. It's interesting, if nothing else, and if the American people elect Trump then I'll be happy because they'll have voted for exactly the kind of leader that they deserve.

This. Donald Trump is a lot like Andrew Jackson or Teddy Roosevelt, a non party line nationalist who wants to make America great in everything it does.
Andrew Jackson was such a good president he shifted politics in this country to mirror his views, as well as destroyed through sheer force of will the Bank of America (the first version of the fed).
Teddy Roosevelt was a party outsider who lucked into the Presidency by an incredible oversight by the Republican party, then proceeded to change the entire party and destroy much of the corruption of the gilded age, as well as launch the United States onto the world stage as a power to be reckoned with.
Now in Trump we have a candidate who can do all of those things again, and bring back a purification of our country more in line with what it is meant to be.
