People are always scared as fuck when they see an AK, I dunno, it's just an intermediate rifle to me. A tool, like a hammer or an angle grinder. It's dangerous as fuck, but it has its proper application just like anything else. The gun is also not particularly accurate stock, averaging about 4 minute of angle. After upgrades and the right ammo, it becomes a 1.5-2 MOA rifle, making it much more useful, but still inferior to AR platforms built as DM role.
The m14 and clones are great shooters, but not tactical or practical enough compared to other available options.

It was a piece of shit then, it's a piece of shit now. It jammed when it was supposed to function, ripped off rounds when it wasn't supposed to. Magazines broke, lubricants and oils went right into the eyes of users. It took 3 major programs to fix it, and it's still shit compared to anything a peer or near-peer nation is running as a service rifle.
