I remember we had to watch a video/documentary on this book.
Our professor went on about how it explains why certain countries are successful and others are not.
Before we even watched it, I assumed that it was due to climate and geography as to why certain countries have developed while others have struggled.
One hour later and this is exactly what the guy mentioned at the end of the film.
How the fuck did this get any awards or any praise? This was the moment that I realized academia is full of bullshit artists.

The study was not japanese, however it was referenced by the MITI, and the 54% was the percentage of inventions by Britain between 1945 and 1986 considered innovative as opposed to derivative.
The US had more total inventions both innovative and derivative, but a smaller percentage of their inventions were considered innovative.
